Man who claims he swapped his wife’s ‘aggressive’ cat for a friendlier lookalike while she was away reveals he’s plagued by guilt six years on – and critics claim it’s a divorce-worthy offence

A man has revealed he swapped his wife’s cat for a lookalike six years ago and said she has never realized.
The anonymous man, believed to be from the US, took to Reddit where he confessed to ditching his partner’s beloved feline while she was away with family for a lookalike who wasn’t ‘aggressive’ and didn’t scratch guests.
However, he admitted that he has felt guilt-ridden ever since – and it wasn’t long before social media users agreed that he had every reason to feel terrible for the ‘unforgivable’ act.
‘You don’t get to give away someone’s pet to a shelter, without informing them,’ raged one, while a second agreed: ‘I would absolutely be considering divorce if I ever found this out.’

In the initial post, he penned: ‘Six years ago, I swapped my then-girlfriend now-wife’s cat with a more well-behaved lookalike.
‘She had an all black cat that was extremely aggressive. It scratched everyone, hissed at everyone, and didn’t use its litter box half the time. My wife insisted she could get it to behave better.’
However, he went on to confirm that she had no success.
‘One week she went out of town to visit her family and I was supposed to go to her apartment and feed it,’ he continued. ‘The first night I went over, it scratched the s*** out of my arm. I joked to the cat that it’s not special and I’ll replace it if it scratches again. The joke stuck with me until I had thought about it enough that it wasn’t a joke.’

He went on to explain how the following morning he took a trip to the local animal shelter and picked out an identical cat who was ‘already litterbox trained and acclimated to people’ – adding it was ‘a lot friendlier and better behaved.’
The man continued: ‘So I adopted it, took it to my wife’s apartment, settled it in, then drove her original cat to an animal shelter a town over (I was paranoid my wife would find out if I took it to a local one).
‘It’s been 6 years since then. We got married 4 years ago. We still have the swapped cat. It answers to the original cat’s name. My wife knows nothing.
‘She loves this cat and brags about how much better behaved it is. Every time I see it, I feel like a total piece of s**t.’
Taking to the comments section, one person penned: ‘If this dude would literally do something as big as replacing his spouses pet I can’t imagine what other things he has definitely lied about and or hidden’ (pictured)
However, while some joked they would ‘not rest’ until the couple wen their separate ways, others urged him never to reveal the secret to his wife.
‘Definitely not something that would benefit anyone if they knew,’ wrote one, while a second penned: ‘Never tell it even to yourself after dark or the scary black cat will haunt your dreams.’
A third added: ‘I will not rest until these two are divorced.’
Elsewhere, a fourth wrote: ‘If this dude would literally do something as big as replacing his spouses pet I can’t imagine what other things he has definitely lied about and or hidden.’
