Man United ‘place £27m bid for Juventus star Douglas Costa’ as Jadon Sancho alternative

Manchester United ‘place £27m bid for Juventus star Douglas Costa’ as Old Trafford chiefs begin to draw up Jadon Sancho alternatives

  • Manchester United have reportedly made their move for Douglas Costa
  • A £27m (€30m) bid is said to have been sent over to Italian giants Juventus
  • Juve are keen to move the 29-year-old on to reduce their crippling wage bill
  • United are now monitoring alternatives for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho

Manchester United have reportedly made their first official move for a winger this summer, by placing a bid in for Juventus star Douglas Costa.

The Brazilian has been made available by Juve, who are planning to restructure under new manager Andrea Pirlo and make sizable cuts to their crippling wage bill.

And United have already tested their resolve with a £27million (€30m) bid for Costa, according to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to value the talents of the pacey 29-year-old, and feels he could add a fresh dynamic to United’s blossoming attacking line.

It is reported that Juve feel that can extract a further £10m from the deal, for the player they paid £38m for in the summer of 2018.

Costa is contracted in Turin until 2022 though United are aware his services are much more easily attainable this summer than Jadon Sancho.

Old Trafford chiefs have failed to make any further breakthrough with Borussia Dortmund for the England superstar, after missing their August 10th deadline.

Word within the Dortmund camp is that Sancho will be staying for the upcoming season, while the player himself is said to have convinced his team-mates he will remain at the Westfalenstadion.

United therefore look set to move to Costa instead, given the player’s proven track record in Europe.

Juve may be more inclined to do business with United and readily agree to their terms, given the growing interest in Turin to bring Paul Pogba back to the club.

New boss Pirlo is said to be hopeful of signing Pogba, after being impressed by the Frenchman when they played together at the Allianz Stadium.

Further reports in Italy, via Tuttosport, have also suggested Juve would be willing to offer either Aaron Ramsey or Paulo Dybala in order to make a deal happen.
