Haidara made his 100th appearance for Leipzig at the weekend but has spoken openly about his dream of playing for a club like Manchester United.

Haidara can play as a defensive midfielder but has the energy to play box to box. He scored his first Champions League goal for Leipzig against United last year in a 3-2 win.

He has 24 international caps and is understood to have a £33million release clause.

Rangnick will take charge at United later this week but may struggle to get through red tape in time to face Arsenal on Thursday.

Staff were informed over the weekend and on Monday that he would be coming in this week visa permitting and will bring in at least one additional coach.

United have discussed a number of targets for midfield with West Ham’s Declan Rice, Kalvin Phillips of Leeds United and Aurelian Tchouameni at Monaco among the names favoured.

Haidara though is well versed in Rangnick’s methods as the German looks to instigate swift changes to United’s set up.
