Man United ‘still in the race to sign David Raya with Tottenham reluctant to pay Brentford’s £40m asking price’, as both clubs search for a goalkeeper and the Spaniard wanting to move on
- Raya has made his intentions to leave Brentford clear but they will not sell cheap
- United and Spurs are both keen to improve between the stick this summer
- Brentford would be willing to hold Raya for the final year of his deal if needed
Manchester United are still in the race to sign Brentford’s David Raya this transfer window, according to a report.
Raya is set to leave the Bees and has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham, but the club are reluctant to meet his £40million price tag.
Both Spurs and United have identified the goalkeeper position as one that needs strengthening this summer, with long-serving stopper Hugo Lloris set to leave Tottenham and Erik ten Hag ken to add competition for David de Gea.
Though De Gea is likely to stay at Old Trafford after agreeing to take a hefty pay cut on his wages, United want to add a new ‘keeper to their ranks after the Spaniard’s struggled last year.
According to The Telegraph, that could still be Raya, whose potential move to Spurs is at risk of falling through amid the price dispute.

Raya still has one year left on his contract with Brentford, but has made his desire to move on this summer known to the club.
Thomas Frank’s side are willing to play hardball over a deal, however, and appear unlikely to budge on their valuation despite the risk of losing him for free next term.
Spurs had hoped to sign him for £20million, meaning they are well off what Brentford are demanding for the 27-year-old’s services.

Brentford have already signed Mark Flekken so have a ready-made replacement and could leave Raya on the bench to make their point.
Chelsea are also interested in signing Raya as they look for a replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, but they are at the back of the queue as things stand.
Raya has held talks with Tottenham following Ange Postecoglou’s arrival at the club and an agreement with the player is imminent, according to Fabrizio Romano.
A move, however, will not be able to be completed if the north London club don’t cough up the fee.
