Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo has revealed his intentions of achieving promotion with Sunderland after thriving on loan there this season.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a successful spell at the Stadium of Light this year and has contributed nine goals from his 29 Championship appearances so far.

His performances have helped drive the Black Cats up to 11th in the Championship table, in their first season back in England’s second-division, and has sparked talk of a potential promotion push.

They lie just seven points behind the play-off spots and Diallo has suggested that the Tyneside club have what it takes to reach the Premier League.

Speaking to United’s club media, Diallo said: ‘The club has a big history. It was in the Premier League before and I hope it goes to the Premier League next season.

‘The staff, the club, the players all have a lot of confidence in me and I do my best on the pitch to repay the confidence from the club.

‘My objective here at the start of the season was to score 10 goals. Now I want to score more goals.

‘But I have another objective which is to take this team into the Premier League because I know it will be difficult, but I always tell myself nothing is impossible.’

His contributions for Sunderland have been nothing short of brilliant, with his nine league goals this campaign making him their second highest goalscorer.

On top of his goals, he’s also chipped in with two assists for the Black Cats this year and has developed his all round-game, which has been noticed by Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray.

‘He can play wide, he can play inside, he can play deep,’ Mowbray told MUTV. ‘I think he can play centre-midfield for us in the Championship, you know.

‘Just give him the ball and he very rarely loses it. Yet we generally put [Patrick] Roberts really wide and play Amad just inside him.

‘We’ve had huge success down the right-hand side of the pitch with those two linking and playing with each other, people running off the back of the two of them and sliding people in. It’s very profitable for us. He is versatile.

‘I see United games, I watch a lot of football, and Bruno [Fernandes] plays a bit of everywhere, off the right sometimes, inside as a 10 or as a running 8, he can play deep and link the midfield up. Amad is a similar type of footballer.’

Fernandes has had a similarly impactful season at United, contributing five goals and six assists from his 25 league appearances.

He also played the full 90 minutes during their 2-0 Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle earlier this month.

The United midfielder played nearly the full match of Portugal’s recent 4-0 win over Liechtenstein during their Euro 2024 qualifier.
