Man Utd co-owner Joel Glazer ‘will make final decision over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future’

Joel Glazer ‘will make the final decision over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Man United future’, after striker blasted owners for ‘not caring’ and making them a ‘marketing club’ in tell-all interview

Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer is set to have the final say on wantaway forward Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, after the Portuguese legend’s infamous interview.

Sources close to Glazer have claimed that the American will ultimately make the final decision on the forward, and that it will be up to super-agent Jorge Mendes to present willing suitors to the club in order to manufacture a move.

The 37-year-old blasted numerous figures from the club, both past and present, before taking aim at their owners for ‘not caring’ about the team.

In the explosive tell-all interview with Piers Morgan, the wantaway forward levelled accusations at the club’s already-unpopular owners.

He said: ‘Manchester [United] is a marketing club, they will get its money from the marketing, the sports they don’t really care, in my opinion.’

He also suggested that the club’s supporters continue to protest against the American owners, adding: ‘The fans, they’re always right. I think the fans should know the truth – should now that the players… we want the best for the club.

‘I want the best of the club. This is why I am coming to Manchester United. This is why I love this club.’

With his contract up in the summer, Ronaldo is free to talk to clubs from abroad this winter, and he will now surely be on the verge of an exit given how many bridges he would appear to have burned.

And the Glazers were not the only victims of Ronaldo’s attack, which saw him openly admit to having no respect for current manager Erik ten Hag.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner said he felt that United had ‘betrayed’ him as well as attacking club legends Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney for criticising his behaviour at the club, particularly his refusal to come off the bench against Tottenham.

He also stated that he had never even heard of former manager Ralf Rangnick before he took over at Old Trafford last season, and was critical of the club’s lack of technological advancement since his exit almost 13 years ago.

The higher-ups at United are thought to be impressed with Ten Hag’s handling of the seemingly on-going Ronaldo situation, especially after he dropped the Portugal icon from the first-team and ordered him to train by himself.

And the club issued a statement following the unsanctioned interview, which said: ‘Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.

Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff and fans.’
