Man wanted over the death of a woman rams a police car

A man wanted for questioning over a woman’s suspicious death has died after ramming a police car.

The collision in central Queensland caused the police vehicle to catch fire and injure the officer inside.

Police were called to a Frenchville home in Rockhampton about 6am on Friday after a daughter discovered her 53-year-old mother dead.

A man was seen leaving the Mills Ave property prior to detectives’ arrival.

It is believed that same man drove his car into a police vehicle at 7am in a neighbouring suburb, causing the police car to catch on fire. 

The sole officer inside suffered several injuries and was taken to Rockhampton Base Hospital for treatment.

The man died at the scene. It is understood he did not die as a result of the crash or from police action.

The Queensland Ethical Standards Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
