As he made his way to the top floor, he even grabbed his rifle and was prepared to be confronted by something even larger, such as a raccoon or opossum.

Instead he found a 28-year-old man lying on a mattress had been creating the disturbance.

The bizarre find was heard by emergency dispatchers as the resident asked for help to remove the uninvited guest, reports Local21.

Police told KOCO: ‘The homeowner thought he heard squirrels in his attic. And when he went up to investigate, there was actually somebody that appeared to taken up residence in his attic.

‘Apparently, the residence has a staircase that goes up the side of the house with attic access, so that appears to be how the person got into the attic.’

During the 911 call, the homeowner could be heard directing the suspect out of the house while aiming a gun at them, saying:  ‘Grab your bag we’re going downstairs.’
