A family have been left terrified after masked raiders were caught on their CCTV armed with a machete as they burgled and ransacked their remote country home.

The two masked men were caught in menacing CCTV images before they smashed their way into the home of Chris and Emily Bushby and their four children in Knockholt near Sevenoaks, Kent, in broad daylight on Monday.

Mrs Bushby, 38, had left her house on the school run when she suffered a puncture, delaying her return home, during which time the raiders struck.

Emily Bushby from Knockholt near Sevenoaks, Kent, posted these shocking images of two men who raided her home on Monday. One of the men can clearly be seen brandishing a machete

Now detectives are hunting the suspects.

The two men were wearing tracksuits and stalked the house before smashing their way in where they stole a number of items before fleeing.

One can be seen armed with a large machete.

Mrs Bushby posted photographs of the raiders on her Facebook page in an effort to assist police in tracking down the two men.

She said: ‘Luckily I was meant to be on school run but had had a puncture so me and kids were out, so grateful for that.

‘I had brought some chicks back with me and the children were waiting outside the property with my dad because they were very excited.

‘They ran down to meet me when I arrived. My son was the first person to run into the house and he said he thought somebody had made a mess of a room.

‘I was confused and when I walked in I realised what had happened. It was shocking.

Mrs Bushby said she published the CCTV images in the hope that someone will recognise the clothes

‘I called the police straight away – before I even went into the rest of the house.

‘I should really have been in the house myself. I only missed them by a few minutes. Usually I would have been in.

‘I couldn’t believe it.’

The raiders took passports and sentimental jewellery.

Mrs Bushby – who has lived with her family at the home for 15 years – said: ‘It was deeply upsetting.

‘When the forensic officers came I looked through the CCTV footage and that’s when it hit me.

‘There was the guy with this machete. It was horrible.

‘I got the biggest shock. The whole thing became a different ball game.

‘It made me feel sick. You can see them looking through the window. I could have been sat in the house. They smashed in and I could have been sat there.

‘Why would somebody feel the need to arm themselves with a machete? That’s what I keep thinking – and what would have happened to me if I had been there.

‘Why feel the need to carry a weapon to raid a family home?’

Mrs Bushby said the family had been traumatised by the ordeal.

She added: ‘I don’t think they’ll come back but it’s in the back of my mind all the time.

‘We’re on edge. It’s a terrible feeling. It’s nerve-wracking.

‘One of my daughters has been having nightmares.

‘If anybody recognises the people in the photos please contact the police.

‘It makes you feel scared.

‘It makes you feel you can’t just sit in in at home on your own and feel safe.

‘You’ve got your children that you protect no matter what and you’ve got to try and explain to them why two strangers have come in armed with a weapon.. It’s sickening.’

Her husband, Chris Bushby, 52, told BBC South East: ‘One of the guys crouched down and throws all his might to smash the glass of the French doors.

‘At that same time they looked around and the guy with the machete is there looking about.

‘Then they disappeared inside. They were really determined. It’s scary seeing them do it – especially with a machete as well.’

A spokesman for Kent Police said the force was investigation the incident and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
