The 23-year-old joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Atletico Venezuela in 2017 but was not given a pathway into the first team and was immediately loaned out to City’s sister club New York City FC.

Herrera then spent the second half of the 2018-19 campaign on loan to second tier Spanish side SD Huesca.

The Venezuela international has since developed a strong reputation after spending a couple of seasons on loan with Granada in LaLiga.

The midfielder made 82 appearances for Granada during his two-season loan spell, scoring 10 goals and providing five assists.

He played a pivotal role in Granada’s 2019-20 campaign which saw them achieve a club-best league finish of sixth place.

Herrera’s performances for the Spanish side attracted interest from Crystal Palace among others earlier in the window.

However, the Venezuelan appears destined for another season in Spain as his loan move to the Catalan side nears completion.

City are also sending defender Erik Palmer-Brown on loan to sister club Troyes in France.

Troyes have also enquired about winger Patrick Roberts and defender Philippe Sandler who both have interest from Blackburn Rovers.
