Manchester City ‘unlikely to pursue Harry Kane again in 2022 and he could sign extension with Spurs’

Manchester City ‘unlikely to pursue Harry Kane again in 2022 and he could sign contract extension with Tottenham… but Daniel Levy will need to include release clause for Spurs talisman to renew’

  • Harry Kane’s proposed move to Manchester City fell through this summer
  • Spurs chief Daniel Levy wouldn’t budge on his £150m valuation of Kane
  • City are now reportedly looking at other targets, and Kane could stay at Spurs
  • The striker’s representatives will demand a released clause in any deal

Harry Kane won’t make the mistake of signing away his future to Daniel Levy without a get-out clause again, but he may have already missed the boat to Manchester City.

The England captain was ready to finally ditch Spurs and move to a top European club this summer, having lost patience trying to drag the north Londoners to the end of their trophy drought.

City were desperate for Kane to replace legendary front-man Sergio Aguero and personal terms were discussed, but Levy blocked the move by standing firm at his £150m valuation.

The Premier League champions settled for £100m man Jack Grealish instead, and they aren’t plotting another bid for Kane in 2022, according to Eurosport.

Kane is managed by his brother, Charlie, who was described by Simon Jordan as ‘not fit for purpose’ this summer.

Signing a six-year deal at Spurs – with no release clause – on the eve of a 2018 World Cup in which Kane would finish top scorer was a strange decision then but looks like madness now.

It could work out as the biggest mistake of Kane’s career, as his wait for silverware continues at a club who only finished seventh last year, have changed their manager once again and are playing in the third tier of European competition.

Daniel Levy very seldom hands out release clauses to his players but Kane will need to be an exception, as he won’t want the businessman still deciding his future aged 31.

The striker has yet to get off the mark in the Premier League after three games this season, and though Spurs topped the Premier League before last weekend, their Crystal Palace defeat showed worrying signs.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side were sunk 3-0 at Selhurst Park, and Spurs’ lack of creativity will be worrying Kane most.

The Englishman didn’t have a single shot on goal nor even a touch in the opposition box after being starved of service.

After being forced to stay this summer, 2021-22 may take Kane to breaking point if Santo’s side don’t improve.
