Man United and Arsenal tracking £15m Borussia Monchengladbach forward Alassane Plea, with Red Devils waiting on Edinson Cavani decision and Gunners uncertain over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette

  • Alassane Plea has 36 goals in 104 games for Borussia Monchengladbach
  • Manchester United and Arsenal are both monitoring the 28-year-old
  • The Red Devils can’t compete for Erling Haaland and could lose Edinson Cavani
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette may leave the Emirates
  • Arsenal are also looking at Julian Brandt and Nabil Fekir to add creativity
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men meanwhile are very interested in Raphael Varane

Manchester United and Arsenal are among the clubs monitoring Borussia Monchengladbach forward Alassane Plea.

The 28-year-old is ready to leave Germany this summer and, with one year left on contract, could be available for a relative bargain at £15million.

Plea, who scored his 11th goal of the season in midweek against Hoffenheim, is quick, can play across the frontline and has a goalscoring ratio of one in three. He cost Gladbach £21million from Nice in 2018 and had interest from Arsenal prior to that.

Arsenal have concerns over the futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, with Lacazette still unsure about committing to a new contract.

United would like Dortmund’s Erling Haaland – who added two more goals to his ever-increasing tally on Saturday afternoon – but don’t have the finances to compete in the current market. They are also struggling to convince Edinson Cavani to stay.

France international Plea represents good value while his ability to play central or wide with pace would at least give United options and fit in with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s style.
