Gary Neville has taken aim at Manchester United after Ralf Rangnick allowed a number of players time off ahead of their FA Cup clash against Middlesbrough.

At his press conference earlier today, it was confirmed by the interim manager that both Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani have requested extra days away.

Lingard has been afforded the time to ‘clear his mind’ after failing to secure a deadline day move away, while Cavani played for Uruguay in World Cup qualifying.

Providing a further update on his squad, Rangnick revealed that Victor Lindelof has been ill and Eric Bailly returned from the Africa Cup of Nations with an ankle injury.

However, reacting to the team news, former United full back Neville appeared to hit out at the club on social media.

‘Sue wanted a day off, Alan took a holiday, John was ill, Barry handed his notice in, Clive said he might be there and Barbara will be on the minutes!’ he tweeted.

Despite interest from Newcastle and West Ham, Lingard will stay at United until the end of the season, when his contract expires.

Cavani, meanwhile, was fielded in his country’s wins over Paraguay and Venezuela.

Luke Shaw is expected to return at left back for the cup clash, though, because Alex Telles played the full 90 minutes for Brazil in mid-week.

‘Paul will be part of the group he might even be in the starting XI,’ Rangnick said.

‘Edi Cavani will only return at the weekend. He contacted me to ask if he could have two more days at home. He won’t be part of the group.

‘Lindelof has been ill the whole week and hasn’t trained. Same with Jesse, he asked to have a few days off to clear his mind. He will be back next week and part of the whole squad again.

‘Eric Bailly came back yesterday and has a swollen ankle so won’t be part of the squad. Luke will be playing because Alex Telles played 90 minutes for Brazil.’
