Manchester United have identified Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as a long-term successor for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Ralf Rangnick has signed a six-month deal to take over as the interim manager, but the club are still on the hunt to find a permanent solution.

Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to take over from interim boss Rangnick in June, providing the Argentine can cut short his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.

However, United could to Sporting Lisbon’s young manager, Amorim, if they are unsuccessful in their attempt to appoint Pochettino, according to The Sun.

Manchester United believe Amorim as a good option for the club considering he led Sporting to their first league title for 19 years last season.

Amorim has also done well with the Portuguese side this season – having secured a place in the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in 13 years after beating Borussia Dortmund last week.

As a result, United could struggle to prise Amorim away from Sporting – who paid £8.4million to sign him from Braga last year.

Should United look to acquire his services, they will be forced to pay the manager’s £25.2m release clause.

Alternately, the Red Devils could sign Ten Hag – who is said to be interested in the United job.

Additionally, Sportsmail revealed last week that Ajax would not stand in his way if he wanted to leave at the end of the season.
