  • Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal have all made shrewd signings in the window
  • Keane does not believe that City or Liverpool will be challenged by other clubs
  • Ex-Man United captain does not see the Red Devils contesting for the title

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has tipped Manchester City to pip Liverpool to the Premier League title next season.

Pep Guardiola’s side clinched the title in dramatic fashion last term, defeating Aston Villa 3-2 on the final day of the season to beat the Reds to the trophy by just one point.

Between them, City and Liverpool have lifted the last five Premier League titles. However, many of the chasing pack have made vast improvements to their squads in the current transfer window.

Tottenham have made five additions to aid Antonio Conte’s demands, Chelsea have made the shrewd £50million signing of Raheem Sterling, while Arsenal have also completed the coup of City striker Gabriel Jesus to front their attack.

However, Keane does not see any Premier League rivals laying a glove on City or Liverpool in the upcoming campaign.

Speaking to Sky Bet, he said: ‘I don’t think they will close the gap. I think they will be a bit better. They have quality and the recruitment, but you can’t look beyond Liverpool and Man City.’

And the United legend was clear that Guardiola’s side were his fancy following the capture of striker Erling Haaland.

He said: ‘Brilliant players, they’ve obviously improved with an unbelievable striker [Haaland] and they’ve got one of the greatest managers ever in Pep [Guardiola].’

The Norwegian netted 62 league goals in just 67 games for Borussia Dortmund and will now spearhead Guardiola’s forward line.

Meanwhile, Keane’s former side Manchester United have made just one signing despite plenty of anticipation ahead of the summer after the appointment of manager Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils have struggled to get deals across the line in the window, with Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia the sole addition so far.

United thrashed Liverpool 4-0 in their opening pre-season game earlier this week, although Keane believes it will be some time before his former side are challenging the upper echelons of the Premier League once again.

He added: ‘The manager no doubt will be given money to spend, how he recruits, four or five experienced players have left the club, which I think is a good thing.

‘But I still don’t see United competing with Liverpool and Manchester City, not just yet.’
