Manchester United: Michael Carrick joins club legends at premiere of Bryan Robson’s film

A host of Manchester United legends, including caretaker boss Michael Carrick, hit the red carpet last night for the premiere of ‘Robbo: The Bryan Robson Story’.

Posing for pictures, Carrick – who will remain in charge for this weekend’s clash against Chelsea – spent time with his legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The two may have shared some words of wisdom during the event in Manchester, ahead of Ralf Rangnick’s appointment until the end of the season.

Carrick helped steer United through to the Champions League last-16 after the 2-0 win at Villarreal, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho both scoring.

And the 40-year-old looked to be in positive spirits at the premiere as he took the time to catch up with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robson himself.

Those in attendance at the bash were treated to the first viewing of the documentary about United and England all-time great Robson, nicknamed ‘Captain Marvel’.

Robson, 64, enjoyed a glittering 13-year stint at United during his career, and won a horde of trophies before leaving to manage Middlesbrough in 1994.

His achievements on the field, which largely took place under Ferguson, will be aired on November 29, while the HOME Cinema showcased the early glimpse.

Paul Gascoigne, Robson’s former midfield partner for England, also attended. Dressed in a sharp three-piece suit, the 54-year-old certainly looked the part.

Touchingly, Gascoigne recently caught up with Robson – who he also played under – to recall their memories, and he admitted that his close friend is also his ‘idol’.

‘I’m in awe with him,’ he said, via United’s official website. ‘He’s my idol, always will be. I just love him in general, I always will do.

‘Forget about Maradona, Pele… the gaffer’s always been my best player ever seen.

‘If I had a bit of Bryan Robson inside of us, in the player I was, I would have been untouchable.’

Harry Maguire was suited and booted, too, and stood next to Carrick for a photo decked out with United greats Carrick, Robson, Ferguson and Rooney.

Rooney posed for more snaps alongside his wife of 13 years, Coleen, and the couple made for a glamorous addition to the occasion.

He was also spotted chatting with Steve Bruce, another United icon.

The film will feature contributions from Rooney, David Beckham, Gary Lineker, Ferguson and Eric Cantona – as well as unseen clips and chats with Robson’s family.

Meanwhile, Rangnick is set to become United’s interim boss until the end of the campaign after agreeing terms over a six-month contract.

He is currently the head of sports and development at Lokomotiv Moscow, but United are in talks with the club to secure his release.

Sources say that an agreement is yet to be reached between both parties, but it is expected to be confirmed in the near future.

Rangnick will then stay on at United for a further two years in a consultancy role.
