Manchester United have reached agreement with Atalanta for striker Rasmus Hojlund.
Hojlund, who was left out of Atalanta’s squad to play a friendly at Bournemouth on Saturday, will cost an initial £64m plus up to £8m in add-ons.
The 20-year-old Dane has agreed personal terms over his move to Old Trafford and will sign a five-year contract with the option of an extra year.
The Italian club were originally demanding £86m, while United were reluctant to go over £60m for a player who only cost Atalanta £15m from Sturm Graz 11 months ago.
But the two clubs have reached a compromise after weeks of talks, taking United’s total spending this summer to £179m on Hojlund, Mason Mount and Andre Onana. Manager Erik ten Hag will be particularly pleased to get all three players signed before the start of the season.
Ten Hag made Hojlund his No.1 target after it became clear that Tottenham were refusing to budge on their £100m valuation of Harry Kane and didn’t want to sell to an English rival amid interest in the England captain from Bayern Munich.

Man United boss Erik ten Hag has been keen to bring a new striker to the club this summer
It’s understood there are still some minor details to complete before Hojlund can move to Old Trafford, but he could feasibly be available for United’s game against Athletic Bilbao in Dublin next weekend.
Hojlund scored 10 goals in 34 appearances for Atalanta last season, and has netted six times in six games for the Danish national team.
Meanwhile, United have interest from Real Sociedad in Donny van de Beek but Galatasaray are falling short on their valuation of Fred.
United are ready to step up their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina depending on those sales.
Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo will see a specialist this week over the ankle injury which has ruled him out of the start of the season which could delay Scott McTominay’s departure amid interest from West Ham.
Meanwhile Sheffield United are in talks with former Manchester United centre-back Axel Tuanzebe. The 25-year-old is a free agent after leaving United last month and spent last season on loan with Stoke City.
