Mangled wreck of car that flipped into ocean on a beach

This is the remains of a 4WD that dramatically rolled into the surf as it drove beside a beach and a dune collapsed under it.

The Toyota Land Cruiser’s roof was caved in from flipping on its way down, it snorkels mangled, and the front right wheel snapped right off its mounting.

Most of the windows, including the windscreen were completely shattered and clumps of sand strewed through all parts of the interior.

Miraculously the driver Francois Van Zyl was uninjured and ‘only his car and pride’ hurt, according to the local tourism authority.

Despite the massive damage to the car, an Australian flag was still proudly attached to the front bull bar with blue tape after the Australia Day mishap.

Mr Van Zyl suddenly lost control of his car as he drove through the sand by Wilbinga Beach just north of Perth when a dune collapsed.

The car slides out over a steep shelf before rolling down the dune and into the ocean.

As the car gathers momentum it appears to slide across the sand and towards the dune face.

It flies over the shelf and completely flips over, landing in the water.

The vehicle eventually comes to a stop perilously surrounded by crashing waves.

Mr Van Zyl posted the video to Facebook that evening, captioning it ‘just another day on the beach’.
