A manhunt is underway to track down a brazen thief who robbed a frail elderly man  by snatching a wallet from his back pocket.

Victoria Police has released CCTV of a man they’d like to speak to in relation to the shameful act at Glenroy RSL in Melbourne’s north on August 3.

Footage shows the elderly patron, 86, aided by a walking frame crossing the floor of the gaming room making his way towards a seat – unaware a thief is closely following behind him.

The gutless pickpocket spots the wallet in the elderly man’s back pocket and sneakily snatches it.

The thief quickly walks away before anyone notices and acts as if nothing happened.

He left the venue and drove off in a black Honda Jazz with unknown registration.

The elderly man was not injured and no idea what had happened until the incident was later spotted on security footage.

Police are now investigating the theft and are keen to track down the culprit responsible.

The man, who was clearly captured on CCTV is described as aged 20-30, had black hair and a black beard.

He was wearing a black Adidas hooded-jacket, black Everlast trackpants and black Nike slip-on shoes with white socks at the time.

The incident happened at the Glenroy Road venue shortly before 3pm on August 3.

The thief was at the premises for just a short time as he was captured on CCTV driving into the car park 15 minutes earlier.

Anyone who recognises the man or has information that could assist police is urged to call Broadmeadows Police or Crime Stoppers.
