Maren Morris cries tears of happiness after receiving callback for Nessarose in Wicked movie

On Thursday, Grammy winner Maren Morris cried tears of happiness after receiving a callback for Universal’s two-part, big-screen adaptation of the $3B-grossing Broadway musical, Wicked.

‘Y’all, I literally don’t even care – yes I do – if I go beyond this callback,’ the Texan-born 32-year-old – who boasts 3.9M social media followers – said via Instastory.

‘Because this is, like, 14-year-old Maren getting to achieve something, like, was never in reach. It just never felt possible, so thank you for being on this journey with me. We’ll see where it goes. I’m just really happy.’

One step closer! On Thursday, Grammy winner Maren Morris cried tears of happiness after receiving a callback for Universal’s two-part, big-screen adaptation of the $3B-grossing Broadway musical, Wicked

Maren went on to give a shout out to Kristin Chenoweth, who had tweeted: ‘You go baby! Told ya you could do it!’

‘Thank you, Kristin, for inspiring me to buck up and just send a self tape in. I don’t know what to say,’ Morris sniffed.

The 54-year-old Tony winner famously originated the role of Glinda the Good Witch during Wicked’s first nine-month run at Manhattan’s Gershwin Theatre between 2003-2004.

And while the country crooner didn’t specifically mention which role she auditioned for – based on her age – it must be for the part of Nessarose, the disabled sister of Elphaba.

Elphaba – who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West – will be played by Cynthia Erivo in director Jon M. Chu’s Wizard of Oz prequel based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel.

The British 35-year-old – who’s only an Oscar away from EGOT status – was cast on November 4, the same day pop star Ariana Grande was cast as Glinda the Good Witch.

Rehearsals are already underway in London for Cynthia and the 29-year-old Grammy winner and principal photography is scheduled to begin in November.
