Mark Wright gets his hands dirty on the site of his planned Majorca holiday home

He’s no plank! Mark Wright gets his hands dirty on the site of his beleaguered Majorca holiday home after former TOWIE star ‘sacked’ his builders for ‘cutting corners’

No gym was required on Thursday as fitness fanatic Mark Wright worked up a sweat on the rubble-strewn site of his planned holiday home in Majorca.

The TV personality appeared to be taking matters into his own hands after reportedly sacking the team of builders he’d originally hired to tackle the project for ‘cutting corners.’

Having travelled to the Spanish island to personally oversee the project himself, Wright, 36, threw himself into the heavy work with a group of friends.

Sporting a black T-shirt and matching shorts, the former TOWIE cast-member ferried various materials into the property as he endeavoured to get the beleaguered project off the ground.

Evidently keen to get involved, Wright had no problem pitching in with the dirty work, and was seen shouldering what appeared to be lengths of skirting board inside the flat he bought more than a year ago.

Wright spent 30 painstaking hours journeying to Mallorca to refurbish his flat in just three weeks after suffering a building ‘nightmare’.

The TV presenter and a team of builders drove for two days and caught a ferry to desperately travel to his holiday flat on the Spanish island.

Speaking on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden from the island, Wright detailed the disastrous scenario he had found himself in.

He explained that he bought the flat a year ago before leaving it in the hands of some builders he didn’t know, but said they tried to ‘cut corners’ and created ‘problems’.

Wright, who does work in property development, said he wasn’t happy with the look of the flat so decided to travel there with a team of builders to do the work himself.

He explained: ‘I bought an apartment just over a year ago, and left it in the hands of some builders that I didn’t know, it wasn’t that I wasn’t happy with the look.

‘There was just lots of problems that were created, they tried to cut corners. So then I spoke to another company and the price wasn’t matching up with what I had in mind, and I just thought, DIY, got to sort it myself.’

Speaking about the long journey, he said: ‘I left two days ago. It’s a long old drive. What makes it longer is the fact that it’s an island.

‘If it was just Barcelona it would be fine, you have to get the ferry which is seven hours, but it ends up being 10 because we’ve been sat here for an hour docked not getting off.’

Wright then revealed that he has just under three weeks to completely strip down the existing ‘bad’ work and refurbish the flat, which is situated within a hotel.

He said: ‘Not even finish it off, strip what they’ve done, because it’s like just bad, and do it myself. At the moment it’s me Jonny Boy and some of his men, and they have to fly out one or two of his men in the week.’

‘Literally just over two and a half weeks and it’s probably, this is not an exaggeration, it’s probably in realistic terms, if you have full hands on deck, a six week job,’ he added.

Jamie asked Mark what his wife Michelle Keegan had been doing to help out with the ‘disaster’, to which the footballer joked that she just texts him asking if he has arrived yet.
