Married At First Sight: Seb Guilhaus issues statement about Elizabeth Sobinoff’s mum

Married At First Sight’s Seb Guilhaus has issued a statement urging for viewers to ‘stop attacking’ Elizabeth Sobinoff’s mum Gillian following their heated clash.

During Tuesday’s episode of the show, fans watched Seb squirm as Gillian quizzed him over his personal finances, career choices and lack of a property portfolio. 

The 31-year-old revealed he has ‘grown close’ to his mother-in-law since then. 

Taking to Instagram, Seb commented on MAFS Funny: ‘Hey guys, Lizzie’s mum is actually a real sweetheart and we have since gotten quite close. 

‘Yes, the questioning was a bit severe and unnatural, but Lizzie also went through unnatural and severe circumstances [on the show] last year. Lizzie’s mum is naturally even more protective of who enters Lizzie’s life – it’s all okay.

‘But please, stop attacking her. She’s truly a very caring person and this roast is surpassing my roast – and we don’t want two overly burnt meals.’ 

Seb spoke out after some viewers on social media had started making cruel comments about Gillian’s appearance, rather than discussing the scene.

During a family dinner on Tuesday, Gillian got stuck into Seb quizzing him about his jobs as a personal trainer and builder, as Elizabeth stayed silent. 

‘How much does that pay? Not much,’ she told Seb, who was clearly taken aback.

Gillian then told Seb her daughter needed someone with an income who could ‘sustain the life she’s accustomed to’.

‘You need to earn a lot of money hanging around Lizzie,’ she told him, adding, ‘She’s not cheap.’ 

Some fans argued Lizzie should be able to look after herself, and should be ‘offended’ at her parents’ assumption that she can’t. 

‘I don’t know many women who rely on a man for financial stability these days, Lizzie’s mum must still be living in a bygone era,’ tweeted one fan.
