Married At First Sight star David Cannon has made a blistering attack on the ‘toxic’ conditions that are forced on contestants during filming of the series.

Speaking to the podcast Not Here To Make Friends this week, the 31-year-old spoke of lockdowns, patrolled hallways, and a strict curfew at 7pm.

‘It was prison,’ the truck driver said.

David explained that while contestants initially had a 10pm curfew during the week, and midnight curfew on weekends, it soon got scaled back.

‘In the end, I think it was 7pm, so we were locked in our rooms with this person that none of us really like,’ David said.

Contestants were not allowed to visit their co-stars of the show, with producers putting themselves on patrol in the hallway.

Patrol: 'We weren't allowed to talk to each other in the hallways, there was a producer (outside our doors), there would be someone who would police it,' David said

David went on to allege that contestants were also given ‘storyline directions’, with production stopped multiple times.

David added in other bombshell revelations that the experts are told what to say during their ‘counselling’ sessions via an earpiece.

Each season new revelations have come out about the filming conditions for the hit Channel Nine show, most of them are complaints.

An insider spoke to Daily Mail Australia last year, saying producers went to extreme measures to keep the stars of the series apart.

‘When the talent weren’t required on set they were basically on lockdown and had a long list of restrictions they must abide by,’ revealed an insider.

If a contestant wished to go to a nearby supermarket, they would first have to ask permission from their ‘minder’ who was on duty in the building at the time.
