It’s the Channel Nine dating show that has the whole of Australia talking.

And now, the producers of Married At First Sight have revealed what really goes on behind the scenes.

Speaking to OK! Magazine on Thursday, producer Tara McWilliams and an ‘insider’ spilled all the secrets from the addictive reality TV series.

One of the more interesting revelations was the intriguing reason why the brides are forced to walk down the aisle to no music.

‘This is so we can clearly capture the bride and groom’s reactions to seeing each other for the first time,’ Tara explained.

She added that around four to six weeks generally goes into planning each wedding and they shoot approximately 40 hours of footage at each nuptials.

While there’s glitz and glamour at every televised ceremony, Tara explained that the couples don’t have to lift a finger or pay a cent.

‘We do consult with them about what kind of wedding they’d like or not like, then absolutely every single detail is organised by us,’ Tara said, adding that they don’t give the couples a budget.

She continued: ‘Sending out the invitations to the guests, organising all guests’ flights and accommodation, organising the ceremony and reception venues, the celebrants, the cakes, limos, photographers, flowers…’

When it comes all the finer details, the contestants involved do have a say on some elements – but not others.

According to the magazine, the brides can choose their own wedding dress and grooms can pick their suits, but they do have a budget.

However, it’s not the groom who selects the ring for his new bride, as female members of the MAFS crew are left with that task.

A insider reportedly also told OK that strange requests can trickle in from the unlucky-in-love reality stars, with one bride requesting a ‘wedding cake made out of cheese’.
