Married At First Sight’s Jake Edwards takes a swipe at ex Beck Zemek – and says the best thing from the show was making friendships with the men

It’s no secret that Jake Edwards and Beck Zemek had a rough time on Married At First Sight this year.

And now Jake, 33, has taken a swipe at his ex-‘wife’ by implying that their marriage was a waste of time.

In a shady post on Instagram, Jake said that the best thing about the experience was forming friendships with some of his male co-stars.

‘It wasn’t a complete waste of time… I’m very grateful to have met these amazing humans,’ he wrote, alongside a photo of himself with some of the boys.

‘Patty [Patrick] still annoys me most days with a phone call or text message.’

The photos showed Jake with Patrick Dwyer, Jason Engler, Brett Helling, and Johnny Balbuziente.

In a recent Herald Sun article, Jake said he never would’ve signed up to Married At First Sight if he knew about the backlash and mental health effects.

Jake, 33, spent a month with monks on a farm in Victoria to heal after the series wrapped.

He was on the 2021 season of MAFS, and was infamously matched with uptight bride Beth.  Eventually, the pair bitterly split before the reunion.

‘My experience, yes, was very challenging because of the person I was matched up with, in fact it was emotionally abusive,’ said the former footballer.

At the same time, Edwards’ relationship with fitness model Sophie Guidolin abruptly ended while he was copping hate and abuse for his appearance on the reality show.

This culminated in Jake reaching his tipping point.

‘I had a complete breakdown,’ he confessed. ‘I did not handle the airing period (of MAFS) well at all.’

Jake revealed that he ended up losing 9kg from the ‘stress and anxiety’ while on the show.

After his month spent on the farm in Victoria, the reality TV star says his soul and spirit was positively affected and claims he’s now a ‘completely new person.’

Following his retreat, Edwards’ next plan is to move to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland in the next two months.

‘Jake Edwards four months ago would not recognise who he is today,’ the footballer declares. ‘I want to leave this old person behind and start again.’

Jake says that while he regrets his time on MAFS ‘because of the pain in the last three months,’ he admits that he might look back at it differently in the future.
