Former Married At First Sight star Elizabeth Sobinoff has bravely addressed her battle with skin photosensitivity. 

The influencer, 31, took to Instagram to share confronting photos of the sunburn-like lesions on her scalp caused by her immune system reaction to sunlight. 

Elizabeth, who appeared on season six and seven of the Channel Nine reality show, spoke candidly about the impact photosensitivity has had on her.

‘I’m not showing you this to ask for advice, I’m not showing you this to have sympathy,’ she wrote. 

‘I am showing you this because this is something that happens to me. It is crappy, I hate it, but I want to be like “crappy things happen to all of us”.

‘I’m bringing some confidence to it.’

Photosensitivity is an extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun and other light sources, according to Healthline.

Lizzie said it’s important to remember people have ‘s**t’ going on behind closed doors, even if their issues aren’t immediately obvious.

She said many people remark on her hair extensions without realising they are there to provide an extra layer of protection from the sun.

‘I see the extension comments… I’ve said this so many times, my scalp is photosensitive, light makes it unbearable,’ she wrote. 

‘[The extensions] act like a hat, majority of the time I also wear a hat as well.’ 

Elizabeth has spoken about the condition before, but for the most part keeps her battle with photosensitivity off social media.

Lizzie was applauded by her followers for talking about the issue so publicly.

She previously told Who magazine she has been ‘completely sober’ since the age of 24 because alcohol can trigger her autoimmune disease.
