Married At First Sight’s Martha Kalifatidis reveals she feared her newborn son Lucius was ‘starving’

Married At First Sight’s Martha Kalifatidis reveals she feared she was ‘starving’ her newborn son Lucius after the baby refused to eat for weeks

Married At First Sight star turned influencer Martha Kalifatidis says that her first few weeks as a mother were bumpy.

The 34-year-old, who welcomed newborn son Lucius with fiancé Michael Brunelli in February, says the baby refused to feed at first.

‘Lucius was born with jaundice, so he didn’t eat for like, the first four weeks of his life’ she told Nine Honey this week.

‘He lost a lot of weight. That was for me the most stressful thing that I was stressing and obsessing over.’

Martha went on: ‘He wasn’t gaining weight, and he didn’t hit his birth weight for almost four weeks.

‘As a mum you’re just like, ‘Oh my God, is this baby starving? What am I doing.”

Luckily Lucius, now three months old, began feeding properly and has since reached his target weight.

Martha recently admitted that she refrains from sharing tips about raising her son with her fans, as she’s scared about receiving backlash from critics.

‘The online parenting and mum community is intense. It’s filled with love, relatable experiences and helpful advice, but it also has a darker side,’ Martha told The Sunday Telegraph.

‘Should you dare to do something a tad different from the next person, you could find yourself at the mercy of thousands of judgmental comments within hours,’ she continued.

‘This kind of pressure can be overwhelming, particularly for a new mum.’

While she has so far avoided this bitter experience, seeing other mums online go through it was enough to deter Martha.

Instead, she and Michael have chosen to focus on the joy their son brings rather than using him as inspiration for online content.

Martha and Michael welcomed Lucius on February 27, announcing their happy news on Instagram.

‘Lucius Brunelli. He’s here, he’s perfect,’ Martha wrote alongside an image of the newborn wrapped in a baby blanket.

In the comments below the post, Michael, 32, clarified how to pronounce the child’s name, writing, ”LOO-SHUS’, if you’re wondering’.
