Masked thug leaves boy, 10, with slashed head when he hurls slab through window of family home

This is the terrifying moment a thug sent a concrete block hurtling through the window of a family home and caused a head injury to a ten-year-old boy.

Lewis Buckley was hit with a shard of glass in what is thought to be a random attack in Bolton, Lancashire, on Saturday.

Dramatic CCTV footage shows the assailant running up to the house before launching the missile, which shattered the living room window, at around 11.20pm.

Dad Martin Buckley, 33, has described hearing an ‘almighty bang’ before sprinting downstairs to find his young son bleeding from the head and in shock.

A masked man lobbed the concrete block through the window of a family home in Bolton

Lewis suffered a gash to his forehead after being hit by glass which shattered across the room – despite being sat at the opposite end.

Family say Lewis’ injuries could have been much worse had it not been for his glasses which ultimately protected his eyes.

It came after the youngster had been allowed to stay up to watch science fiction film Jurassic World ‘as a treat’ over the school summer holidays.

Martin, from Bolton, Lancashire, said: ‘At 11.20 we heard an almighty bang, my wife jumped up and said it was the window.

‘We both rushed down to see what had happened. As soon as I got halfway down the stairs you could see glass everywhere.

‘He was covered in glass. There were shards in the wall behind him and he had pieces of glass on his top.

‘He was frozen, he never called for anyone he just sat there in shock.

‘It would definitely have caused more damage if he didn’t have his glasses on. I turned to his mum and said ‘thank god he was wearing them’. It could have gone in his eyes.

‘We don’t know why this happened, it’s absolutely ridiculous. I can’t work out why this has been done.

‘We moved up here recently, thinking it was a nice area to raise our children and it is a beautiful place, but vandalism like this is a massive problem.’

Police were called but said they were unable to attend the incident straight away – citing a lack of evidence about the identity of the vandal and other incidents in the town which were a higher priority.

Martin has criticised what he claims was a lack of police presence over the concerning incident.

He added: ‘Everyone feels like if anything happens the police are not going to come anymore, that’s the state it’s getting to.’

Martin explained that the entire family, including his wife, Donna, and four children, all could have been in the room but he decided at the last minute to have them go to bed.

He added: ‘Because we have four children and my wife works a lot, we don’t normally have a lot of family time.

‘What we do is get all the quilts and put them in the front room and we all lay down there and watch Disney films.

‘We were going to do it on Saturday night but one of our twin boys had gone to bed so I thought we would leave it, but I let our other 10-year-old stay downstairs on his own and watch a film, as a treat.’

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police explained that an officer would call the family within the next few days to get more information about the incident.

He said: ‘We’ll send an officer down, but because of the time of and because there were other threat-to-life incidents that we had to focus on, we could not attend the scene.

‘Our local resolution officer will call and get some details about what happened so that we can investigate.’
