While it might not feel like it at the time, a missed flight or a tedious connection could end up being a real blessing in disguise this festive season – at least for those single travelers looking for love over the holidays.
Online matchmaking service Match.com has revealed a list of the top ten US airports where people can expect to find love this holiday season, charting the travel hubs which play host to the highest number of single-and-ready-to-mingle people at any one time.
And it’s good news for anyone travelling to or through the Midwest, as Chicago O’Hare came out on top.
Holiday hook ups: Match.com has revealed the top ten airports for finding love this holiday season
By mining location data from its members, the dating app was able to identify the top 10 airports in the US with the most single people in place at one time.
Atlanta airport ranked number two on the list, followed by Los Angeles in third place and Denver in fourth.
In fifth place was Dallas/Fort Worth airport followed by Phoenix in sixth place.
The seventh most likely airport to find holiday love was Newark, followed by Orlando in eight place.
San Francisco took the number nine slot, followed by Boston in 10th place.
The app compiled the information using its Missed Connections feature, a location based metric that focuses on matching users with people they’ve crossed paths with in real life.
The Missed Connections feature uses location data from cell phones and shows users the Match.com profiles they’ve been in close proximity to.
So if two Match.com users are on the same flight or stuck with the same long delay, the app will allow them to see interested parties in their vicinity.
Speaking about the Missed Connections feature to Mashable, Match.com CEO Mandy Ginsberg revealed that it was created to encourage people to make the first move in person, rather than online.
‘The whole point is starting these relationships out in the real world,’ she said.
However, users must opt-in to this feature, which also filters out unlikely or unsuitable suitors in the same way as normal, preventing its users with an onslaught of unwanted attention.
