The emotional moment a football fan cried uncontrollably when she met her Matildas icon Sam Kerr has been captured on camera.

The video shared to TikTok shows the young woman sobbing as she gets her picture taken with the Australian forward just after the team’s 4-0 win over Canada in Melbourne.

‘That time I got a photo with Sam Kerr and reacted like the adult I am,’ the text on the video reads.

‘This is what women’s sport means to me.’

The fan turns to the camera with tears rolling down her face as her friends try and console her after she leaned over the fence to get a photo with the superstar.

‘Oh my god, oh my god!’ the person filming says.

Other Aussie football fans loved what the video said about the depth of feeling for the team as they chase World Cup glory.

‘You’ve encapsulated what the Matildas and Sam mean to the whole of Australia. There is no other national team which holds the hearts of a country,’ one wrote.

‘Why am I, an American, over here crying?’ asked another.

‘Same girl same. This the correct response,’ a third commenter wrote, with her take echoed by another fan who added, ‘This was my reaction when I met her fr honestly.’

It comes as the Matildas prepare to take on France in the quarterfinals on August 12.

Kerr made a dramatic return during the match against Denmark after being sidelined with a calf injury.

Kerr’s return from injury gives Australia a small selection headache with some concern over how it could impact Australia’s other attacking weapons when they step onto the field against France.

She was among only a dozen Matildas players who trained at the squad’s Brisbane base on Wednesday 48 hours after making her World Cup entrance as debate rages about her place in the starting team.
