Matildas superstar Mary Fowler has made history in the Women’s Super League by becoming the first player to notch up two or more goal involvements in four successive league games.

Fowler’s scintillating form continued for Manchester City, as the on-song striker laid on two goals for star teammate Bunny Shaw in the 4-0 win over Liverpool.

She had previously recorded three goals and three assists in matches against Aston Villa, Manchester United and Arsenal. 

The historic benchmark shows how valuable she is to the powerhouse club – and her almost telepathic connection with Shaw. 

‘She’s so very young and she plays a lot Mary, she’s really important for us,’ City boss Gary Taylor said after the match.

‘And she can play in various positions as well, and she helps the team with the quality. When you see her in that vein of form she’s been in, I think she’s she’s pretty hard to play against.’

Fowler was subbed off in the second half due to an injury concern.

‘We’re just a little bit concerned with her hamstring problem again,’ Taylor explained.

‘She’s been playing a lot for club and for country, so we just need to make sure that’s managed well.

‘And we had to, we couldn’t take any risks towards the end.’

Meanwhile, Sam Kerr has returned to Chelsea’s Kingsmeadow home at the end of her dramatic week to watch the Women’s Super League champions take another crucial step towards the title with a vital late, late 2-1 win over Everton.

Kerr, who was acquitted of racially aggravated harassment last week following a high-profile court case in London, has since been given a resounding vote of support and confidence from the club.

Chelsea boss Sonia Bompastor said on Thursday that Kerr wouldn’t be disciplined by the club as her post-hearing apology had been ‘enough’.

It’s anticipated that Kerr will be back playing by March, where Chelsea are matched against Fowler’s Man City in both the League Cup final and the Champions League. 

Kerr took to Instagram earlier on Thursday to publish several pictures of herself smiling during training, captioning the post with a smiley face.

Former manager Emma Hayes commented a ‘love heart emoji’ on the post.

The 31-year-old striker, who signed for the Blues in 2019, suffered the ACL injury during a warm-weather training camp in Morocco in January 2024.

She underwent surgery on the injury, which former Blues boss Hayes stated was caused by a ‘simple and innocuous’ movement during a training session.
