Australian soccer star Sam Kerr has lifted the lid on her private 30th birthday celebrations with girlfriend Kristie Mewis in the US. 

The Matildas forward took to Instagram on Sunday with a gallery of photos showing herself and Kristie, 32, enjoying a sun-drenched stroll before taking a romantic boat ride together. 

One photo showed Gotham FC player Kristie cuddling up to Sam for a selffie while holding a bottle of Corona beer. 

Another showed the pair strolling side-by-side through a park, with Kristie showing off her ripped abs in a black crop top, bikini bottoms and a sheer midi-skirt. 

Sam meanwhile wore a black-and-white collared shirt and matching trousers.

Elsewhere, Sam was pictured posing on a jetty with a can of drink as she prepared to board a boat, while another image showed the amorous couple pouting in the reflection of a parked car. 

Sam also included another photo of herself clutching a box of festive cupcakes, one of which featured the words ‘Happy 30th Sam’ piped in icing on the top. 

‘Pre birthday cele,’ the talented athlete wrote in her caption, prompting her ladylove to reply in a comment: ‘Ugh the besttttt [love heart emojis].’

Sam met Kristie while they were both playing for competing clubs in the US league in 2019.

They spoke online for almost four months during the 2020 Covid lockdown before spending two weeks in quarantine together, where they quickly fell in love.

The pair continued their romance in the lead-up to the Olympics in 2021 where – following America’s defeat of Australia in the semi-finals – they were photographed together.

Their on-pitch embrace made headlines as Sam’s break-up from her former longtime partner – another US club player Nikki Stanton – had not yet become public.

Their cross-global romance has since been heavily documented on social media with both women amassing hundreds of thousands of followers.

‘We’re not private people. I like sharing my story. I like sharing who I am outside of football. Football is 5 per cent of my life,’ Kerr told UK publication Gaffer earlier this year. 

Last month the couple travelled to Sydney while Sam played with the Matildas in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

In a twist, Sam competed against Kristie’s ex-girlfriend Rachel Daly, who played for England in the semi-final.
