Matt Damon puts $22,000-a-month rental Byron Bay mansion back on the market

Matt Damon and his wife Luciana Barroso have returned to the States after spending four months at a $4million rental home in Byron Bay.

The Good Will Hunting star, 47, took out a lease on the lavish Broken Head property, known as Blackwood House, next to close pal Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky in April.

And after spending an idyllic summer at the coastal town, the Hollywood couple are bidding farewell to their sprawling pad, which features an infinity pool, five bedrooms and 145 acres (59 hectares) of private bushland.

The long summer is over: Matt Damon and wife Luciana have bid farewell to their five-bedroom $4million Byron Bay rental (and neighbour Chris Hemsworth) as they return to the States after four months

The couple had already known about the home before he signed up for it in February as he had visited it over the summer when it was leased by his pal and fellow actor Liam Hemsworth and his partner Miley Cyrus.

The house next door is still leased by Damon’s close pal Chris and his wife Elsa Pataky while their nearby $7 million property, Titijaru, is being renovated.

Matt and Luciana, 42, stayed there with their brood: Isabella, 11, Gia, nine, Stella, six, and Luciana’s daughter from a previous relationship Alexia, 18.

Between the two properties, Matt, Chris and the family had a whopping 155 acres (62 hectares) of pristine, private land to roam free as they await their next movie roles.

Whereas Thor’s pad features a contemporary white stone palette, Matt’s rental features dark wooden exteriors and grey stone floors.

In the kitchen, timber cupboards and marble bench tops are integrated with stainless steel appliances to create a bachelor-pad style elegance and sophistication.

Around the corner, large grey lounges face massive french doors, which open up to offer panoramic coastal views.

The bedrooms revert to a more familiar white and grey palette, with a canopy often draped over the bed to accentuate the homestead cottage feel.

The bathrooms are directly modelled of the design approach used in the kitchen, featuring timber benches and marble flooring.

Matt, Luciana, Chris, and Elsa appeared to have a great time living it up in Byron Bay, dropping in on the music festival Bluesfest and regularly being pictured relaxing on the beach.

Matt also reportedly played golf with Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning and attended an AFL match on the Sunshine Coast last week.

Damon frequently visits Australia, and while he’s had the time of his life hanging with Chris and company, two of his most recent trips have seen him fall victim to the nation’s notoriously prickly wildlife.
