Matt Damon puts down record $16.6M for Brooklyn penthouse

Two years after earning an Oscar nomination for his work in ‘The Martian,’ Matt Damon is once again set to become a stranger in a strange new land.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the 46-year-old actor and his wife Luciana are preparing to make the move to Brooklyn, with Damon having entered into contract for the penthouse apartment at The Standish.

That luxury building is located in the tony Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, whose residents include Mary Louise Parker, Michael Shannon, Lena Dunham, Paul Giamatti and artist Matthew Barney.

It is not known how much Damon offered for the apartment, but the asking price for the six-bedroom pad was $16.665million.

If the final sale price is anything close to that it will be a new record for Brooklyn, besting the previous high of $15.5million that was paid for a townhouse in 2015 which is located just a few blocks away in the borough’s Cobble Hill neighborhood.

The apartment building’s website promises residents the finest in modern appliances and luxuries throughout their multimillion-dollar dwellings.

‘Undermount sinks and freestanding tubs in select residences add an extra element of simple, elegant practicality.’

The apartment building is also located right on the Brooklyn Heights promenade, offering views of the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Williamsburg Bridges, lower Manhattan and Freedom Tower.

The building got its name due to the fact that it was the former site of the Standish Arms Hotel.

It was then owned by the Jehovah’s Witnesses for 26 years, who snapped up a good deal of real estate in the neighborhood before selling most of it off over the past decade.

There is also one other perk too in that it is just a few blocks from the prestigious St. Ann’s school, where Damon can enroll his three youngest daughters: Isabella, Gia, and Stella.

The  building also has a four-bedroom apartment available for just over $7million and two one bedrooms which are a relative steal at a little over $1million each.
