Matt Johns hits brother Andrew with a SAVAGE sledge about his love life in hilarious Origin dig

Matt Johns hits his brother Andrew with a SAVAGE sledge about his love life in hilarious interview about NSW State of Origin team

  • New South Wales has announced a 22-man squad for the State of Origin decider
  • Matty Johns has used an analogy involving his famous brother to describe it
  • He says being picked for the NSW side is like getting married to a NSW woman

Former NRL star turned Fox Sports personality Matthew Johns has made a savage joke that is likely to land him in the doghouse with his brother Andrew, Blues coach Brad Fittler and his own wife Trish.

It started as an innocuous segment on SEN Breakfast where the panel was chatting about State of Origin on Monday morning.

Matty Johns and his wife Trish have been married for 25 years – and he roped her into the gag about his brother, Immortal player Andrew

New South Wales has developed a reputation for picking and flicking players in recent years, unfairly jettisoning talent when they make a single mistake or before they even have a chance to settle into their jersey.

For better or for worse, the likes of Josh Addo-Carr, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Angus Crichton, Dale Finucane, Tyson Frizell, Clint Gutherson, Luke Keary, Cody Walker, Zac Lomax, Cameron McInnes, Daniel Saifiti and more have found themselves scrapped in recent years.

It is in stark contrast to the Queensland policy of picking and sticking, with the only change to the Maroons side for Origin III the enforced selection of Cowboy Tom Gilbert to replace Felise Kaufusi, who is out for personal reasons.

New South Wales named a largely unchanged lineup as well, but Fittler hedged his bets with a squad of 22 that will have players like Stephen Crichton sweating.

Matty singled out his famous brother Andrew – who is onto his third marriage – to sum  up the Blues’ selection process.

‘It’s very NSW,’ Matthew said.

‘I want people to know … be extremely concerned. Don’t marry anyone from NSW because we fall in love with new acquaintances very easily.

‘What you do, is you just get rid of them. Just bring someone else in.

‘I mean, the best example is our best ever player, Andrew Johns, I think he’s onto his third wife.’

Matty is known for ripping into Andrew but this savage take might make the next family dinner a little tense.

Andrew Johns is in a long-term relationship with Kate Kendall, who he has been with since 2016. The couple share a young daughter, Alice.

Before that he was in a 12-year relationship with ex-wife Cathrine Mahoney and he had a two-year marriage with Renae Chapman.

Matty Johns has been with his wife Trish for 25 years, but might be sleeping in the dog house after making a joke about her too – while she was in the same room.

‘Really, I’ve been married now, what, Trish, 25 years? You just get bored with it,’ he said.

When SEN Breakfast co-host Jimmy Smith asked if Trish had anything to say about that, Matty replied: ‘Nah, she’s busy putting the bins out. I’m not joking’.
