Matt Turner hints the AFC Richmond coach could appear at July’s All-Star game vs. Arsenal

‘Ted Lasso? I’ll see what I can do!’: Matt Turner hints the AFC Richmond coach could appear at July’s All-Star game vs. Arsenal in a hilarious video where he tells teammates about MLS, DC United and ‘Thor’ Walker Zimmerman!

MLS has officially announced Arsenal as this summer’s All-Star Game opponent, and the likes of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard may not be the only stars in attendance at Audi Field.

In a promotional video released Tuesday, Arsenal (and former New England Revolution) goalkeeper Matt Turner walks Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah through the league as ‘MLS Education Director’ ahead of the July 19 game at DC United’s Audi Field.

And while most of the video is lighthearted fun, Turner appears to tease some news towards the end of the clip.

Asked by Martinelli if Ted Lasso will be at the All-Star Game, Turner hints at Lasso – played by Jason Sudeikis – making an appearance in DC.

‘I know a few people. I’ll see what I can do,’ he said.

Of course, with both MLS TV broadcasts and Ted Lasso produced by Apple, Turner’s quip could actually be brought to fruition.

Throughout the rest of the roughly two-minute clip, Turner teaches his teammates about MLS tifos and DC United’s history, and Martinelli comments that likely All-Star Walker Zimmerman looks like Thor.

‘I’d love to see him go against big Gabi [Magalhaes],’ Nketiah says.

With the game being played at DC United’s Audi Field, the club’s coach Wayne Rooney is set to manage against his old rivals.

‘I’ve had a front row seat to watch the growth and development of Major League Soccer, first as a player and now as a manager,’ Rooney said in a press release.

‘The opportunity to lead the best our league has to offer against a top Premier League club like Arsenal will be a highlight for me personally and an unforgettable experience for our passionate fanbase here in DC.’

Meanwhile, Sudeikis and other members of the Ted Lasso cast were also in the news Monday as they visited the White House to promote the discussion of mental health.

The first episode of the show’s third season premiered last week.
