The joyful news is undoubtedly all the sweeter for the longtime couple given they suffered a devastating miscarriage earlier in the year.

After discovering they were expecting back in June, the couple tragically lost the baby seven weeks into the pregnancy.

‘We’d heard so many stories about how it had been so difficult for some people, and obviously we thought it was going to be difficult for me because of what had already happened,’ Laura, 32, said of falling pregnant a second time around.

The couple are due in June 2019, but are uncertain as to whether or not they’ll find out the gender of the baby before then.

Prior to their late-night announcement, Matty had hinted earlier on Friday that the couple could be expecting a child when he joked about baby names.

Speaking on his Nova 96.9 summer breakfast show, the former reality star said he wants to name his firstborn ‘something crazy’.

‘I wanna call my child something crazy like Moon, or Phoenix, or River,’ he told co-hosts Sarah McGilvray and Matt de Groot.

He explained his reason for wanting a unique name for his child was because he and his siblings – Tom, David, Matt, Adam and Kate – have ‘quite boring’ names.

Back in November, the former marketing manager said he planned to propose to Laura ‘next year’.

‘It will definitely be next year,’ Matty told Daily Mail Australia, adding that a wedding would not be too far behind.

‘I’ve always been a fan of a quick turnaround. I’ve never been a fan of a long engagement,’ he added.

‘If you’re going to do it, you should have the occasion take place within 12 months.’
