Matthew McConaughey recalls saving his son from a charging ram as he plays True Confessions

Matthew McConaughey had a tall tale to tell on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon Tuesday night.

During Fallon’s popular True Confessions game segment, the True Detective star claimed to have saved his infant son in a story that involved an aggressive wild animal.

‘I, McConaughey, got charged by a mountain ram at the edge of the Grand Canyon and had to throw my 6-month-old child 15 feet through the air — to my wife — to save him,’ he revealed at a roundtable.

Fact or fiction? Matthew McConaughey played True Confessions during a spot on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday

During the segment Fallon and his guests read from an envelope that contains a story that may or may not be true.

On this night, McConaughey had to convince his opponents — Fallon and guest Tariq Trotter — that his story was, in fact, true. It was then up to Fallon and Trotter to figure out whether it really happened.

At first, The Tonight Show host and the Roots rapper reacted with some suspicion, and then proceeded to grill him about the alleged incident.

Jimmy quickly jumped in, ‘What year was this? It was my 40th birthday, the 48-year old movie star shot back.’

McConaughey kept a poker face and then elaborated about how his wife had scattered down to the edge of a 20-foot cliff when the ram came charging.

‘After I had already got rid of the dog, I had to launch Levi through the air for my wife to catch so we didn’t get rammed off the edge,’ he said.

‘The dog is the one that what was pi**ing off the ram. The dog is the one that was growling first… I had to get rid of the dog.’

‘It has to be true,’ Fallon said. ‘What! I say it’s a lie,’ Trotter replied with laughter.

‘That’s a good one isn’t it? You know what — that’s 100 percent true,’ McConaughey said with a big smile as he pointed towards the audience.

The Dallas Buyers Club star then proceeded to tell the full story.
