A ‘superfan’ of Matthew Wright appeared in court today accused of stalking the TV presenter by repeatedly turning up at his home.

Michelle Ranicar, 53, allegedly followed Mr Wright from work to his home in north London and sent him messages about his family over a six-month period between November 2018 and May.

Wood Green Crown Court heard she allegedly ‘pursued’ the 54-year old presenter and his wife Amelia and ‘turned up outside their home’.

Ranicar was a regular audience member for The Wright Stuff, and described herself as a ‘superfan’ in a 2016 interview.

She attended court wearing a black dress and jacket but did not enter a plea to a charge of stalking involving serious alarm or distress.

Judge John Dodd, QC, adjourned the hearing until November 1 and asked that a psychiatric report be prepared.

Natalie McNamee, prosecuting, said: ‘There is an application by the defence, which we do not oppose, for this defendant not be arraigned today so that fitness to be plea can be determined.’

Mr Wright previously presented Channel 5 show The Wright Stuff, which ended its 18 year run in 2018.

He now hosts a radio program on Talk Radio while he was also a contestant on the 13th series of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.

Ranicar, of Uxbridge, West London, was bailed under the condition not to contact Mr or Mrs Wright, not to post about them on social media or come with 100 yards of them or their home.

She will return to Wood Green Crown Court for another hearing on 1 November.
