  • Flavour is being trialled at a few McDonald’s outlets found in  NSW, SA and NT
  • In those stores chocolate soft serve comes in cones, cups or in other desserts
  • The flavour has been likened to chocolate Yogo yoghurt or a Street’s Paddle Pop

McDonald’s has delivered some bad news to chocolate lovers who were hoping to see their favourite flavour widely available as a soft serve ice cream in the fast food giant’s stores.

Since September chocolate soft serve has been a ‘secret menu item’ only found in a few stores that foodies hunted down to enjoy the cult taste but a popular food TikToker raised hopes the sweet treat would soon be going much more mainstream.

Sydneysider Adrian Widjy posted on Friday that McDonald’s was ‘finally expanding chocolate soft serve availability and range’.

He told his followers ‘it is apparently available in many more Macca’s so check one near you’.

However, a McDonald’s spokesperson said chocolate soft serve is still only being trialled in a limited number of stores in NSW, SA and NT.

‘The delicious new dessert is a twist on our popular Vanilla Soft Serve,’ a McDonald’s spokesperson told Seven News.

‘We look forward to hearing our customer’s feedback on the new flavour.’

Widjy could hardly contain his excitement as he posted that chocolate soft serve was going out to a wider audience.

‘Yessssss! The long awaited and rare chocolate soft serve is now more available than ever!’ he wrote on a TikTok post.

‘Go check one near you! On top of that they have Sundaes and McFlurry too!’

Widjy visited a McDonald’s in the south eastern Sydney suburb of Waterloo where he ordered a chocolate soft serve in a cone as well getting it served as part of a Oreo McFlurry and caramel-sauced a Sundae.

Most of those commenting were enthusiastic about the flavour if they had tried it.

‘First thing I’m eating when I’m no longer pregnant,’ one said.

Another said ‘it literally tastes like Choc Paddle Pop.’

Not everyone was excited however.

‘Sorry not that great,’ one person commented.

‘It’s crap. It’s tastes like fake chocolate and I had it in 2020,’ another said.

Chocolate soft serve has been trialed a number of times previously, including last November at the north west Sydney McDonald’s outlet in Hornsby.

TikTok food enthusiast Nina gave the dessert a rave review, comparing it to a yoghurt treat popular with children.

‘It’s a solid 10/10 and tastes just like a chocolate Yogo. Don’t walk, run,’ she told her followers.
