McDonald’s worker at South Australian restaurant tests positive for coronavirus

A McDonald’s worker has tested positive for coronavirus amid a cluster of cases linked to Adelaide airport. 

The crew member was employed at a McDonald’s store in Fulham Gardens in Adelaide’s western suburbs. 

A McDonald’s spokesperson said: ‘McDonald’s Australia confirms a crew member at its Fulham Gardens restaurant has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating at home,’ 7NEWS reported.

The spokesperson said that the crew member had not been inside the store while infected and that the McDonald’s would continue to serve customers.  

‘There is no suggestion the crew member was exposed to COVID-19 in the restaurant and the South Australian Department of Health has advised the restaurant is able to continue to trade,’ the spokesperson said.

All of the store’s employees were notified of the positive coronavirus diagnosis when SA Health confirmed the results.   

Seventeen coronavirus cases have now been linked to the outbreak at Adelaide Airport.

SA Health on Tuesday announced it was investigating a COVID-19 cluster from the airport, before 13 cases were confirmed among Qantas baggage handlers.  

The new cases linked to the airport outbreak included 12 Qantas staff members and five close contacts of those workers.  

Travellers who passed through Adelaide were warned to wipe down their baggage and get tested if they began showing any symptoms of the killer virus.  

The number of coronavirus cases in South Australia rose by eight on Thursday and brought the state’s total number to 385.
