Mecca Cosmetics unveils largest ever beauty store Brisbane

Beauty fanatics around the country are clutching their lipsticks at the news that Australia’s largest ever make up store has finally opened its doors.

Mecca Maxima, the wildly popular cosmetics retailer, cut the velvet rope on Friday and let hundreds of beauty addicts run amok in its sprawling new Brisbane location.

Running over two levels on a 550sqm space with 60 different brands and around 5,000 individual products, the new Mecca shop is by far the company’s largest to date.

With the coveted Urban Decay eye-shadow palettes given out for free to the first 1000 customers, it is no surprise Wintergarden Shopping Centre was lined with makeup connoisseurs days before opening.

Elsewhere on the day, the store is giving out free glitter makeovers, treats, goodie bags and more than $65,000 worth of prizes.

And despite its main rivals including Sephora and Priceline having heavy stakes in the Australian market, Mecca has proved enormously popular for beauty junkies young and old.

More than 2,000 fans lined up outside the new retailer awaiting the grand opening, eager to get their hands on a bottle of foundation or the newest liquid eyeliner.

Mecca also unveiled a fresh store layout including sit down beauty bars for makeovers and a dedicated skin zone.

‘I think customers are going to be blown away by this new style. It’s super sleek, with highly interactive elements and digital touch points to allow the customer to shop in whatever way he or she likes,’ Jacob Stanley, Mecca head of education told Broadsheet.

The new store will also be home to Mecca’s digital look books and dozens of new products.

Sitting alongside high-brand stores such as Zara and Lululemon, Mecca’s biggest store is likely to attract immediate success in Brisbane’s Wintergarden shopping centre on Queen Street.

Retailers hoping to secure a spot in Wintergarden are often forced to sit on two or three year waiting lists – with several international labels tipped to soon open doors in the Brisbane district, 7news reports.
