He added he wasn’t sure when he would recover.

In a follow-up tweet, Barry thanked numerous well-wishers on social media.

‘Wow. Thanks for all the good wishes. I’m lucky. It could have been so much worse,’ he wrote.

‘Brain appears to be intact. And probably no long term damage.’

Barry is an English-born, Australian-based journalist, newsreader and television presenter, who has won countless awards for his investigative reporting.

He has been the host of Media Watch twice, with his second stint from 2013 onwards.

Barry has also worked for the Seven Network and the Sydney Morning Herald.

Two of his biographies on Australian cricket legend Shane Warne and media mogul James Packer courted plenty of controversy.

The Packer book details relations between James and his father Kerry, and suggests the pair had a difficult relationship, and that James felt a sense of relief following his father’s death in 2005.

Barry has also repeatedly squared off against the likes of former radio tsar Alan Jones, 2GB morning host Ray Hadley and News Limited journalist Andrew Bolt in recent years.
