Jaggar Phillips is only 10, but he is going places in surfing – and fast.
The talented grommet, from Maroubra in Sydney’s east, is the envy of his schoolmates after securing a sponsorship with iconic Australian surfing brand Billabong.
He is equally talented away from the beach, be it carving up at skate bowls or in Jiu-Jitsu classes.

The 10-year-old first began surfing at the age of two, and is already well known in elite surfing circles
Jaggar, who started surfing at the age of two with his dad Matt, caught the eye of staff at Billabong after recently completing the Surf 30 Days in September challenge, which raised money for remote surf communities overseas.
Hosting the event alongside SurfAid, Billabong were impressed by the dynamic goofy-footer, who collected over $2000 himself for the charity.
Following some social media exposure, the pint-sized youngster was on cloud nine when he was added to the Billabong surfing stable, which includes the likes of world number two Italo Ferreira, Joel Parkinson and big wave shredder Laura Enever.
‘It was a great feeling, I was so happy,’ Jaggar told Daily Mail Australia when reflecting on his big sponsorship news.
‘I love surfing because I can do it and have fun with my friends.’
Life in lockdown has also been in recent months – time away from the classroom allows Jaggar more time to hone his surf skills.
‘I think homeschooling is great, in between Zoom chats I can meet my friends out in the surf,’ he added.
Jaggar also doesn’t have to look far for advice – Bra Boy and renowned big wave surfer Koby Abberton is a family friend.
Surfing NSW identity Ethan Smith wasn’t surprised to hear Billabong have backed Jagger to be a future star in the ocean.
‘We have been aware of his exploits for some time, his appetite for the sport is amazing,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
‘He loves the water, and with his father being a local lifeguard at Maroubra, surfing is in his blood.
‘Jagger is a real talent, and I have no doubt he will be loving the fact Billabong have identified him as a rising star.. how far he goes in the sport is up to him.’
