Channel Nine’s The Block is coming back bigger and better than ever in 2019.
And now the five teams set to battle it out on the show have been revealed.
This year the contestants will be completing one of the biggest renovations ever seen on the show, St Kilda’s The Oslo, but the teams say they are more than ready for the challenge.

TESS AND LUKE, CAIRNS, QUEENSLAND
Tess and Luke were so desperate to get on the show that they applied four years in a row.
The newlyweds admitted that after constant rejections by Nine, they were ‘a little miffed’ and ‘almost dirty’, but are so excited to tackle The Block this year.

‘We work pretty well under pressure,’ Tess, 28, said in the couple’s official bio.
‘Only because we tend to leave everything to the last minute. It means we don’t second-guess ourselves,’ she added.
The pair have recently completed a renovation of their own in Queensland, and plan to ‘flip houses’ after appearing on the show.
Tess is a media sales partner, while Luke, 30, is a carpenter.
El’ISE AND MATT, PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA
El’ise and Matt not only have experience in renovating, but are also incredibly motivated, and are participating in The Block for their three kids.
The couple admitted that when they first welcomed their children, they struggled financially.
‘We had the three kids, bought our first house, and went down to one wage,’ Matt, 39, said in their official bio.

‘It put a massive financial strain on us.’
El’ise, 33, is a fashion manager, while Matt is a carpenter.
They first applied for the show last year, but are now finally ready to compete.
‘It wasn’t the right time for us last year,’ El’ise said.
‘We went through an emotional time with it all and we questioned ourselves – was it something we did or didn’t do?’
JESSE AND MEL, MELBOURNE, VICTORIA
Fans of the show may remember real estate agent Jesse from the series last year.
He appeared as an auctioneer who sold Hans and Courtney’s apartment.
This year, the 29-year-old is participating with girlfriend Mel, 31, a contracts administrator.

After being together for three years, the pair call each other their ‘secret weapon,’ as Mel is organised and Jesse is great at talking to people.
They are planning their future together and one day want to get married and start a family, but are not fussed on the order of which they do things.
‘We definitely want to get married, but we want to get a house and have kids first. Marriage is just a bonus. We don’t need that piece of paper,’ Mel said.
MITCH AND MARK, SYDNEY, NSW
Dubbed the ‘stylish grandads,’ Mitch, 56, and Mark, 57, have been together for 14 years and have renovated several properties together with no building experience.
But they’re ready to give The Block their best shot this year, and say they aren’t expecting to fight on the show, because their bond is that strong.

‘The way we operate under pressure is pretty different but it works,’ Mark said.
‘Mitch always thinks there’s a solution for everything, and he’s very positive.’
He added: ‘He’s a problem solver. I will say let’s work through it. Give me the facts, we’ll get to a decision.’
ANDY AND DEB, WALLABI POINT, NSW
Andy, 48, is a stand-up comedian, while Deb, 46, owns her own homewares store.
The ‘childhood sweethearts’ have renovated an impressive five properties together and share children.
The pair recently shared their family heartbreak, revealing their youngest children suffered from severe eczema – so are used to running off no sleep.
Speaking about their son Tyler, Andy said: ‘His face looked like he belonged in the burns unit.’

‘And we couldn’t treat it, because we couldn’t find the right combination of drugs. We had to wet-dress him all the time.’
Deb added that they’d often drive their son around because he couldn’t sleep.
‘Often I would pop him in the car, bandage him, give him some medication like antihistamine or something, and try and distract him by driving,’ she said.
This year, the Blockheads will be renovating The Oslo Hotel, which is approximately five minutes from last year’s site, The Gatwick.
The Oslo was built more than 150 years ago after the Victoria Gold Rush.
In an official statement, host Scott Cam said of the building: ‘At the start I looked at this and thought that’s impossible.’
He added: ‘Here we have double the size of what we did last year, and more than six times the size of the original Block in Bondi back in 2003. That’s a big ask.’
According to Homes To Love, the site will be turned into five townhouses – each with their own elevator – and was reportedly purchased by Nine for a whopping $10.8 million.
