Meghan and Harry ‘looking for second home in California’ away from the spotlight

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are looking for a second home across the pond, a source claims.

It is believed the royal couple are hoping to move closer to the Duchess of Sussex’s mother, Doria Ragland, who she is very close to.

‘Meghan definitely wants a place in Los Angeles — she loves the city, the lifestyle and climate,’ a source told The Sun. ‘Ultimately, she is a California girl and can breathe easier there.’

The royal couple, who are expecting their first child any day now, only recently moved into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, after a £3 million renovation.

Reports suggest they would like to spend more time in Meghan's home town, which would allow them to stay close to her mother Doria. Pictured, the Duchess of Sussex arrives with her mother Doria Ragland at Cliveden House hotel in the village of Taplow near Windsor on May 18, 2018

But reports suggest the couple are keen to have a second home in California, where her mother Doria lives, and are considering browsing houses in Los Angeles.

Meghan grew up in the city before she moved to Toronto to pursue her acting career and film Suits – where she then lived for six years. It is while living in the Canadian city that she met Prince Harry.

According to sources, another perk of having a place in Los Angeles would be having more freedom and control.

‘Spending time there would also allow her some freedom and independence from both the Palace and the Press — and more control over her life and the people around her,’ the publication reported. ‘She is a duchess in the UK, but could be a queen in LA.’

Meghan lived in a two-bedroom cottage with her parents Doria and Thomas, and half-siblings Thomas Jr. and Samantha on Providencia Street in Woodland Hills, until she was two.

After her parents’ divorced, she moved into a top-floor apartment with her mother, on South Cloverdale Ave in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood.

And according to sources, the couple hope to raise their child in a ‘less restrictive’ environment – similar to how the Duchess of Sussex grew up herself.

Doria lives in a modest bungalow in the area, which the couple reportedly visited during her pregnancy.

The bungalow is a 20-minute drive from posh shopping landmark Rodeo Drive, and sits on a busy main road near a McDonald’s drive-thru.

However, Prince Harry and Meghan only recently moved into their new home Frogmore Cottage, where they are anxiously awaiting the birth of their new baby – now a week overdue.

It was previously reported in April that the couple hoped to move to Africa on a three -year long royal role.

It holds a special place in the couple’s hearts as Harry took Meghan to his favourite luxury camp Meno a Kwena in Botswana, to celebrate Meghan’s 36th birthday and mark their first year together.

Prince Harry also spent a gap year in Lesotho back in 2004. He once described it as his ‘second home’.
