Meghan’s friend Daniel Martin hints he could be Archie’s godparent as he shares snaps of London trip

Meghan’s long-term friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin has sparked speculation that he could be one of Archie’s secret godparents, after sharing snaps from a trip to London, days after the royal christening.

The New York based make-up artist took to his Instagram stories on Tuesday to share videos of lunch at a restaurant in Chelsea, followed by afternoon tea at Harrods in London.

An active Instagram user, Daniel usually posts snaps from whatever projects he’s working on, but hasn’t shared anything from London to indicate he was here on business.

Archie Harrison was christened in Windsor on Saturday, but the couple – who reportedly chose ‘close and old friends’ to be godparents – refused to release their names, insisting they were ‘private citizens’.

Meghan’s close friend Daniel Martin has shared snaps from a trip to London on Instagram, sparking speculation he could one of the ‘private citizens’ chosen by Meghan and Harry to be one of Archie’s godparents

Daniel shared four videos from his London trip, revealing he’d enjoyed a ‘beautiful’ lunch at the Ivy restaurant in Chelsea before heading to Harrods for afternoon tea.

Tagging friends, he shared that he had enjoyed a Georgian black tea, as well as a selection of sweet treats and sandwiches.

Daniel is believed to have known Meghan for over a decade, having met her while the former actress worked on Suits.

The pair then kept in touch and while working on her former blog The Tig, Meghan asked Daniel to give her a helping hand.

He was by Meghan’s side on her wedding day as he perfected her makeup, joined her for her baby shower in New York and was one of the first to visit Prince Harry and Meghan when they moved into Frogmore Cottage shortly before Archie’s birth.

The makeup artist’s trip to London comes days after Prince Archie was christened in a private ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Despite the royal’s best attempts to keep the godparents under wraps, rumours have now surfaced about Prince Harry’s former ‘wingman’ Charlie van Straubenzee, as well as his former nanny Tiggy Legge Bourke, were among those chosen.

Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said they ‘felt fortunate’ to have enjoyed their son’s christening with his godparents and shared two pictures from the big day – but the rest of their 25-strong guest list remains a mystery.

The royal couple shared two snaps from the event with their near 9 million followers, posting that they felt ‘so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public’ and thanking supporters for their kindness.

But many royal fans felt the couple hadn’t shared the joy with members of the public and some slammed the couple for picking and choosing when they wanted to be royals, as it had previously surfaced that the couple had been more than happy to use £2.4 million of tax payer funds to pay for renovations at their Frogmore property.

One woman, who had travelled to Windsor from Wales in the hope of seeing the family yesterday said she was ‘very hurt’ after they once again broke from tradition, leaving members of the public in the dark over the celebrations.

Anne Daley, 63, said: ‘I pay a lot of tax for their civil duties. One minute they want to be royals, the next they don’t. We should be able to see the christening.’

She added: ‘They want to have their cake and eat it. The general public can’t work this out. A lot of people don’t like to see them hang around the fake celebrities. Forget Hollywood. They are royal.’

Many royal fans had become used to the open nature that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have embarked on with their family and may have expected the same from Harry and Meghan.

At the christenings of George, Charlotte and Louis, Kate and William shared the hymns sung, the lessons read and the godparents.

They even went one step further for Charlotte’s christening at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, inviting members of the public to a paddock outside the churchyard as they welcomed well-wishers.
