Meghan’s mentors ‘could do more harm than good’, warns expert

Meghan Markle and her mentors ‘could do more harm than good’ with a new initiative to help women get back to work after the pandemic, the founder of a website helping new mothers get jobs has warned.

The Duchess of Sussex needs to ensure her team is made up of the right advisers because the wrong one can ‘destroy’ their clients’ self-belief, Hannah Martin from the Talented Ladies Club said.

Ms Martin, who is a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Women and Enterprise, also blasted the scheme as ‘a little like a publicity stunt’ with ‘no structure or advice for how anyone can participate’.

Meghan announced her ’40×40′ campaign on her 40th birthday on Wednesday in a video featuring Hollywood star Melissa McCarthy and a comedy cameo by Prince Harry.

In a clip shared on the Archewell website, the Duchess could not stop giggling as the Bridesmaids actress, 50, helped her launch her plan, which is also backed by several other famous LA-based friends.

The 40-year-old, seen for the first time since the birth of Lilibet two months ago, said she wants people around the world to commit to giving 40 minutes of their time to mentor women going back to work.

Among those who have promised to join are Adele, poet Amanda Gorman, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian PM Justin, and fashion designer Stella McCartney – all friends of the duke and duchess.

The scheme received extra Royal support later in the day when Princess Eugenie pledged to take part in an Instagram post for ‘dear Meghan’s 40th birthday’.

The 31-year-old, who is still close to Harry and Meghan, wrote: ‘To celebrate dear Meghan’s 40th birthday I’m contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to support women reentering the workforce.’

Transcript: Meghan and Melissa launch Duchess’ ’40×40′ campaign in comedy video call

Meghan: Hey Melissa, do you have a second?

McCarthy: Hey yeah, of course. I’m working on that email I told you I was going to do – that organic garden? That’s what I’m doing.

[McCarthy is seen solving a Rubik’s Cube, unaware that her camera is on]

Meghan: You know your camera’s on, right? I can see you.

McCarthy: Aha, hang on, I’ll be right back.

[McCarthy gets up from her chair]

Meghan: No no, it’s no problem, its fine.

McCarthy: I think this will probably seem better for you.

[McCarthy sits back down wearing a posh hat and carrying a cup and saucer]

Meghan: Ok, it’s my 40th birthday and I’ve got an idea.

McCarthy: I know what it is.

Meghan: Really?

McCarthy: My first guess- is it another photoshoot under a tree where you’re looking very peaceful?

Meghan: Peaceful under tree is me every day.

McCarthy: No? Ok. Are we finally getting matching tattoos?

[McCarthy holds up an illustration showing Meghan and McCarthy surrounded by roses underneath a banner which says: ‘Besties Forever’]

Meghan: I mean, you know I already have something very similar across my back.

McCarthy: This one’s you, and that one’s me, cause sometimes I’m like: Are we twinsies?

Meghan: You know, maybe we save it for when I turn 50.

McCarthy: Are you finally going to do a Suits reunion.

Meghan: Why would I do a Suits reunion for my birthday?

McCarthy: Why would the cast of Friends do a reunion for my birthday? But they did it.

Meghan: They did say they would only ever do it for a historical event. I think the bigger idea is –

McCarthy: Yacht party, yacht party! Who’s ready for a yacht?

[McCarthy puts on a beach hat and sunglasses while Meghan giggles]

McCarthy: When you say no yacht, do you mean zero yachts?

[Meghan shakes her head]

Meghan: No, here’s the idea. Because I’m turning 40, I’m asking 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of their time to help mentor a woman who’s mobilising back into the workforce. Over two million women in the US alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid. And I think if we all do it and all commit 40 minutes to some sort of active service, we can create a ripple effect. You in?

McCarthy: Yes times 40. Forty forty forty, and then 40 times I say yes. Is it ok if I still do it in the hat?

Meghan: I wouldn’t expect anything else.

McCarthy: Thanks friend. Bye friend.

Meghan: Cheers.

McCarthy: See you at 50.

But the Duchess and participants in the scheme were warned they need to be careful when acting as mentors.

Ms Martin, who has been inspiring and empowering mothers to work through her website since 2013, told MailOnline: ‘In principle it’s a great idea.

‘Mentorship can be incredibly powerful, especially if your confidence has been knocked.

‘The right person offering you tailored advice and encouragement will make an enormous difference.

‘However, the key words here are ”right person”. The wrong words or poor advice can do more harm than good – however well meaning they may be.

‘I’ve spoken to women whose self-belief has been destroyed through working with the wrong mentor.

‘It’s such an important area that the All Party Parliamentary Group I am a member of, Women and Enterprise, have spent nearly 18 months researching best practice for coaching and mentoring women, with a view to producing recommended guidelines that will protect women.

‘I’m sad to say that this also feels a little like a publicity stunt to me. On the face of it it’s a great gesture, but beyond galvanising 40 of her friends to offer their time, there’s no structure or advice for how anyone can actually participate.

‘If Meghan is genuinely passionate about helping two million women back to work, it would be good to see more insights shared on what specific problems these women face, and proposed, concrete solutions that are followed through with on-the-ground action from the right people. That really would be something to celebrate.’

Meghan’s video, posted online on Wednesday afternoon, started with a Zoom-style call in her LA mansion.

She told Melissa: ‘Because I’m turning 40, I’m asking 40 friends to donate 40 minutes of their time to help mentor a woman who’s mobilising back into the workforce.

‘Over two million women in the US alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid. And I think if we all do it and all commit 40 minutes to some sort of active service, we can create a ripple effect.’

Melissa repeatedly interrupts Meghan with jokes about other things she could be doing to celebrate her birthday, leaning on her royal links suggesting a tea party or a bash on a yacht.

At one point the Duchess laughs when asked: ‘Are you finally going to do a Suits reunion?’, and replies: ‘Why would I do a Suits reunion for my birthday?’

But it was Melissa who laughs the loudest at the end of the call when she spots Harry juggling outside the window, much to Meghan’s surprise – though the camera was at the perfect angle to spot him.

The slick film was made in the same immaculate Montecito study where Harry filmed his recent Apple TV mental health series with Oprah, and Meghan sits at grand oak desk with a number of pictures of her husband and two children, a pile of strategically placed copies of Meghan’s children’s book The Bench.

US-born Meghan also sips from a quintessentially British cup of tea placed next to a plate of biscuits with her  beloved beagle Bogart sat behind her on a luxurious grey dog cushion. At one point the dog appears to doze off.

The Duchess asked 40 activists, athletes, artists and world leaders to participate by contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to women re-entering the workforce, saying that millions of women have been ‘shouldered the brunt’ of the Covid-19 pandemic and need help returning or regaining work.

She has written a statement of intent about her new initiative 40×40 on the website of her charitable foundation Archewell.

She says when reflecting on turning 40, and the many things she is ‘grateful for’, she was struck that ‘time’ is ‘among our greatest and most essential gifts’, especially ‘time spent in service to others knowing that it can contribute to incredible change’.

The duchess, who two months ago gave birth to her second child daughter Lilibet, claimed globally tens of millions of women had left the workforce during the past two years, in a large part due to the pandemic.

But many were still in unpaid roles like carers and she claimed research has shown fewer women than men will return to work as the pandemic recovery begins.

Meghan wrote: ‘In reflecting on my 40th birthday and the many things I am grateful for, I’m struck that TIME IS AMONG OUR GREATEST AND MOST ESSENTIAL GIFTS: Time with our loved ones, time doing the things we love, time spent learning, laughing, growing, and the sacred time we have on this earth.

‘Amongst the most valuable gifts of time is also time spent in service to others knowing that it can contribute to incredible change. To that last point, and with my 40th lap around the sun in mind, it made me wonder: what would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?

‘In the past two years, and in large part because of the COVID-19 pandemic, TENS OF MILLIONS OF women around the world have left the workforce, including over two million women in the US.

‘So many of these women are also SHOULDERING THE BRUNT OF THE CRISIS when it comes to unpaid labor, including schooling and caring for family members. And the latest research shows that FEWER WOMEN THAN MEN WILL REGAIN WORK as we recover from the pandemic.

‘I believe mentorship is one way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their economic strength, and for my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 MINUTES OF MENTORSHIP to support women re-entering the workforce. With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.

‘If you are able, please JOIN US and pledge 40 minutes today in service of others in the way that feels right to you. The time that you donate can contribute to a GLOBAL WAVE OF SERVICE and set in motion meaningful impact in our own communities, and across the world.’

The full list of celebrity mentors has not yet been released. However, those who are part of Meghan’s programme include Adele, Amanda Gorman, Amanda Nguyen, Deepak Chopra, Dr Ibram X Kendi, Gloria Steinem, José Andrés, Dr Nadine Burke Harris, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, Stella McCartney and Melissa McCarthy.

The video ends with ‘bloopers’ from the recording session – including one shot of Prince Harry juggling in the background. The Duke of Sussex, 36, is seen through the window of the couple’s Montecito mansion as he throws tennis balls in the air in the sun-soaked garden.

The moment left Melissa in stitches and prompted Meghan to say: ‘What the?’ before she burst into a fresh fit of giggles.

Meghan is thought to have revealed a grainy first photograph of Lilibet today after a framed picture of Harry kissing a newborn baby took pride of place on her desk in the new video.

Four images could be seen next to the duchess at her £11million mansion, during the clip to mark her 40th birthday, with the biggest one appearing to show their first son Archie who is now aged two.

Three further black and white photos could be seen in a connected frame in front of this, with the central one seeming to show Harry kissing a baby and one on the right potentially showing Meghan holding a young child.

The Sussexes have not yet released any photographs of Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor who was born exactly two months ago on June 4 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and is eighth in line to the throne.

Archie has also rarely been seen since the couple stepped back as senior royals in March last year, with the most recent picture of him released to mark his second birthday this May showing him with his back to the camera.

Meghan shared a sweet tribute to her two children with a necklace featuring their star sign constellations.

The duchess wore a dainty silver necklace resembling the astrological signs of Taurus Archie, who was born in May 2018 and Lilibet, who is a Gemini having been born in June this year.

Meghan opted for a relaxed look, pairing the thoughtful accessory with a white vest and pair of linen trousers, teamed with a loose over the shoulders white cardigan.

Her casual LA look was paired with a pair of suede brown heels and a chunky gold bangle. Her brown tresses were tried back in a chic bun and the duchess opted for a natural make-up look with a light smokey eye.

In the video, the duchess offered fans a rare glimpse inside the Californian mansion she shares with Harry.

Chatting via Zoom from her dark grey Apple Macbook computer, the glossy clip was filmed in the same room in which she appeared briefly during her husband and Oprah’s recent Apple TV mental health series.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a dainty silver necklace resembling the astrological signs of Taurus Archie, who was born in May 2018 and Lilibet, who is a Gemini having been born in June this year.

She donned the necklace in a clip posted on the Archwell website, where she chatted over video call to Hollywood actress Melissa McCarthy from her California mansion.

The $1,785 (£1,283) accessory is by LA-based designer Logan Hollowell is available in 14k gold and diamond or white sapphire.

Meghan opted for a relaxed look, pairing the thoughtful accessory with a white vest and pair of linen trousers, teamed with a loose over the shoulders white cardigan.

This time viewers were given a more substantial view of the study, which boasted a grand oak desk with a pile of strategically placed copies of Meghan’s children’s book The Bench, along with elegant white file in-trays and decorative glass bottles.

The duchess was also joined by her beloved beagle Guy, who looked perfectly at home on a luxurious grey dog cushion, while a chic £1,240 Hermes throw blanket (perhaps a nod to Harry given it features the letter H) was strewn over one of the two cream cushioned chairs.

Guy, who moved to Kensington Palace with the duchess in 2017, was adopted by Meghan when she lived in Toronto while starring in Suits, and had been just days away from being put down.

A Dog’s Dream Rescue, the dog shelter in Toronto that saved Guy, described how he was placed in a ‘kill shelter’ after being found wandering in the woods in Kentucky in 2015.

Volunteers from the charity organised for Guy to be driven across to Canada to an adoption event, where the Suits actress spotted him and took him home immediately.

Life has improved for the pooch since then. He was spotted travelling to Windsor ahead of the royal wedding, in a car with none other than the Queen herself. The tale of his rescue became the subject of a book, His Royal Dogness, in 2018.

Members of the self-declared ‘Sussex Squad’ – fans who support Harry and Meghan – have made donations to charities and organisations supported by the Duchess as part of a fundraising drive they’ve dubbed the #Meghans40celebration.

Among them is One25, a Bristol charity supporting sex workers that was visited by the Sussexes in 2019.

There had been speculation that Meghan, who welcomed daughter Lilibet Diana in June, was planning to celebrate her milestone birthday with a lavish party for 65 guests.

However yesterday Page Six dismissed the plan and suggested Prince Harry will instead whisk his wife off on an ‘intimate getaway’.

Royal experts have also speculated that the Sussexes may choose to release an eagerly-anticipated family photo to mark the special occasion. Fans are still waiting to catch a glimpse of Lilibet.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier told The Sun Online: ‘I think it’s likely we will see a picture of the family. It wouldn’t surprise me, if Meghan does release a pic of her with Lilibet to mark her 40th birthday, as they’ll will want to emphasise what a happy family unit they are.

‘And it will be interesting to see what messages she gets from the royals – I suspect they will post messages, even though in private they are very upset about was has happened,’ – presumably a nod to their explosive Oprah Winfrey interview.’

According to The Mirror, Prince Harry has reportedly ordered a cake for his wife from a local bakery, Posies & Sugar, which creates cakes in a simple semi-naked icing look and decorated with flowers.

The couple are not planning to attend the grand birthday party of former President Obama – who turns 60 on the same day – which is believed to be taking place at his Martha’s Vineyard home over the weekend.

Last year Meghan enjoyed a quiet birthday at home amid the Covid-19 pandemic, five months after she and Harry sensationally quit the Royal Family and moved to the US.

Her 40th is five months before her sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s, while Prince William also hits the milestone in June next year.

Since they got together, Harry and Meghan have enjoyed intimate birthday celebrations. For the Duchess’ 36th, the prince took her away to Botswana where they carried out conservation work with the charity Elephants Without Borders.

She marked her 37th – her first birthday as an official member of the Royal Family – at the wedding of Harry’s friend Charlie van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks in Surrey.

On her 38th, which was Meghan’s first as a mother, having given birth to son Archie in May 2019, the couple held a private celebration at their Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor before flying to Ibiza.

Today, the Queen, Prince Charles and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have all shared well-wishes to Meghan Markle on her 40th birthday.

The Royal Family Instagram account, run by the Queen’s Buckingham Palace staff, was the first to post on Instagram and Twitter, sharing three photos of Meghan along with the message: ‘Wishing the Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday today!’

One of the photos shows the Queen, 95, and Meghan smiling on their first and only joint engagement in June 2018.

Within minutes, Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall added their own birthday messages.

Royal fans praised the ‘gracious’ and ‘dignified’ decision to share the social media posts despite Harry and Meghan’s recent public criticism of the Royal Family in a string of high-profile TV and podcast interviews.

It comes just weeks after the bombshell announcement that Prince Harry is penning a tell-all memoir to be released next year. The book is described as a ‘definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him’.

The Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William are said to have been completely blindsided by the news.

Prince Harry didn’t feel he needed permission from Buckingham Palace to write the memoir, a spokesman said at the time. The representative told the BBC that Harry would not be expected to obtain permission for the project from Buckingham Palace.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s ‘truth bombing’ began in March with their extraordinary 90-minute interview with Oprah Winfrey where they accused the Royal Family of racism towards Archie and ignoring cries for help from a depressed Meghan when she was suicidal and pregnant.

In the chaotic aftermath of the show, watched by almost 100million people worldwide, the couple claimed this would be their ‘final word’ on Megxit, only to continue talking about it in more damaging detail over the coming months.

And now the royals are awaiting the release of Prince Harry’s book, which coincides with the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year.

There is reportedly concern among courtiers that it could overshadow celebrations to mark her 70 years as Monarch. However today’s birthday posts suggest the Firm is keen to present a united front despite the reported tension.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge marked today’s milestone with a photo of Meghan from her and Harry’s royal tour of Australia in October 2018.

It shows the Duchess in a flowing striped maxi dress and a faux lei necklace on Sydney’s Bondi Beach. She was pregnant with Archie at the time.

The message says: ‘Wishing a happy 40th birthday to the Duchess of Sussex!’

The Clarence House Instagram account, run by Prince Charles and Camilla’s staff, shared a snap of Meghan smiling as she attended a round table discussion on gender equality with the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust and One Young World at Windsor Castle in October 2019.

The simple message reads: ‘Wishing the Duchess of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday!’

Prince Harry, the juggling joker! Duke leaves wife Meghan and her new Hollywood BFF Melissa McCarthy in fits of giggles with background cameo in 40th birthday video

Prince Harry was once dubbed the Royal Family’s ‘resident joker’. And he proved he hasn’t completely lost his sense of humour when he made a cameo appearance in wife Meghan Markle’s new 40th birthday video.

The Duchess of Sussex today celebrated her milestone birthday by announcing a new initiative to help women back into work in a film featuring Hollywood star Melissa McCarthy and a comedy cameo by her husband.

Speaking in a video shared on the Archewell website, Meghan couldn’t stop giggling as the Bridesmaids actress, believed to be a new friend made since moving to Los Angeles, helped her launch her ’40×40′ campaign.

In between fits of giggles, the Duchess launched 40×40, a global effort encouraging people around the world to commit to giving 40 minutes of their time to support women going back to work.

There are 28 further celebrities on the list who have not yet been revealed. One of them could be Edward Enninful (left), British Vogue editor in chief, who posted the 40×40 logo on his Instagram account this afternoon. Another could be Daniel Martin (right), a make-up artist, who wrote today: ‘For women who give everything, we give our time. Are you in? 40×40’

At one point the Duchess laughs when asked: ‘Are you finally going to do a Suits reunion?’, and replies: ‘Why would I do a Suits reunion for my birthday?’

But it was McCarthy who laughs the loudest at the end of the call when she spots Prince Harry juggling outside the window, much to Meghan’s surprise – although the camera was at the perfect angle to spot him.

Is this the first picture of Lilibet? Framed photo appearing to show Prince Harry kissing newborn baby takes pride of place on Meghan’s desk along with unseen snaps of Archie in new 40×40 video

Meghan Markle is thought to have revealed a grainy first photograph of her second child Lilibet today after a framed picture of Prince Harry kissing a newborn baby took pride of place on her desk in a new video.

Four images could be seen next to the Duchess of Sussex at her £11million mansion in California, during the clip to mark her 40th birthday, with the biggest one appearing to show their first son Archie who is now aged two.

Inside Meghan Markle’s California-chic study: Duchess’s desk features a healing quartz crystal, English tea and biscuits and a VERY large stack of copies of The Bench (and a nod to Harry with £1,240 Hermes ‘H’ blanket)

Meghan Markle offered fans a rare glimpse inside the Californian mansion she shares with Prince Harry today during a ‘special message’ shared on her 40th birthday.

The Duchess of Sussex shared a video featuring Bridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy on the website of her charitable foundation Archewell to introduce her new 40×40 initiative which encourages people to donate 40 minutes of their time to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need.

Chatting via Zoom from her dark grey Apple Macbook computer, the glossy clip was filmed in the same room in which she appeared briefly during her husband and Oprah Winfrey’s recent Apple TV mental health series.

1. Decorative glass bottles

Given one of two-year-old Archie’s first words was ‘hydrate’, it makes sense that the Duchess should have a bottle of water to hand in her study. Perched on the edge of her expansive desk is a tall glass swing top bottle and two his and hers glasses.

During a lighthearted moment in Meghan and Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year, the Duchess said their talkative toddler’s new favourite thing to say is ‘hydrate’, a week after his doting dad told James Cordon’s Late Late Show that Archie’s first word had surprisingly been ‘crocodile.’

2. White flowers

Almost taking centre-stage on the desk, between two stylish white in-trays, is an elegant gold vase housing a bunch of large white roses.

The Duchess is known to be a fan of the blooms, having previously sent a large bouquet of pink roses to her friend Jessica Mulroney, and the colour is an appropriate choice for her neutral colour-scheme.

White roses are often used at weddings (though Meghan opted for different blooms in the same shade) because they symbolise purity, however they’re also said to represent youthfulness, innocence, young love and loyalty.

Meanwhile the paper organisers resemble white wood ones by Threshold – sold at Target, a large American department store, and priced at an affordable £7.83.

3. Stacks of The Bench

Perhaps strategically placed towards the front of the camera frame was a rather large stack of 11 copies of Meghan’s new children’s book The Bench.

They appear to be special edition hardbacks, as they look significantly larger than your average book. The Duchess claimed the book showed ‘another side of masculinity’ in a message to thank readers after it became a New York Times bestseller.

In a statement on the Archewell website, she said: ‘While this poem began as a love letter to my husband and son, I’m encouraged to see that its universal themes of love, representation and inclusivity are resonating with communities everywhere. In many ways, pursuing a more compassionate and equitable world begins with these core values.’

However, the book failed to hit the UK Official Top 50 chart after selling just 3,212 copies in its first week – being beaten by footballer Marcus Rashford’s self-help guide.

4: Hermes £1,240 throw blanket

On first glance, the cream cushioned chair beside Meghan looked to feature the letter ‘H’ – a nod to Harry’s initial – as part of its design.

However, on closer inspection it appears the Duchess had intricately placed a decorative Hermes throw blanket, priced at £1,240.

Made in Scotland, the Avalon III jacquard woven wool and cashmere throw is finished with blanket stitch and comes in Coco/Camomille – the shade chosen by Meghan – or Écru/Gris Clair.

The blanket blended perfectly well with her minimalist decor and colour scheme of neutral earth tones, creams and white.

5. Healing quartz crystal

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already revealed they own a collection of crystals that are scattered around their Montecito mansion; during a conference call they held earlier this year, eagle-eyed fans spotted a celestine crystal in the background.

Placed beside her stack of copies of the bench is a large white crystal, traditionally considered to be a ‘master healer’ – appropriate for a woman who has just given birth.

It’s said to amplify energy by absorbing, storing, releasing and regulating it, as well as aid concentration and memory.

The Duchess is a long-standing proponent of spiritual practices including meditation and yoga – a hobby also taken up by her husband – and has previously touted crystals for their healing properties.

6. English tea and biscuits

They may have left the UK for America, but there’s one British tradition Meghan appears to have embraced wholeheartedly – that of tea and biscuits.

Perched on an elegant silver tray with gold handles is an intricately patterned monochrome teacup and saucer, beside a matching plate with a chocolately treat.

The crockery set is from English brand Twinings, which is based in Andover, Hampshire, appropriately from its Burleigh Black Regal peacock collection.

It features an oriental bird motif, hand-decorated at Middleport Pottery with a black and white palette. One teacup and saucer is priced at £30 each, however it’s currently out of stock.

7. Stone fireplace

The Sussexes’ Italian villa style home features several large open stone fireplaces, with this one possibly being the grandest of the lot.

The opening is concealed by two carved iron doors, suggesting it’s perhaps not in regular use – especially with the warm summer Montecito temperatures.

8. Luxury dog cushion

The couple’s dog makes a sleepy cameo in the royal’s 40th birthday address – but doesn’t look entirely happy about being woken from his slumber.

The adorable beagle, Guy, is seen snoozing on a sizeable grey-and-white striped pillow behind Meghan, and as the conversation between the royal and the Bridesmaids star becomes more animated, the pet is disturbed from its slumber and glares at the camera filming the action.

Guy, who moved to Kensington Palace with the Duchess of Sussex in 2017, was adopted by Meghan when she lived in Toronto while starring in Suits, and had been just days away from being put down. A Dog’s Dream Rescue, the dog shelter in Toronto that saved Guy, described how he was placed in a ‘kill shelter’ after being found wandering in the woods in Kentucky in 2015.

Guy is not the only family member making an appearance – Prince Harry is also seen juggling in the background.

Meghan Markle shares sweet tribute to Archie and Lilibet with necklace featuring their star signs as she dons all-white outfit and killer heels for 40th birthday video call with Melissa McCarthy

Meghan Markle shared a sweet tribute to her two children today as she marked her 40th birthday in a necklace featuring their star sign constellations.

Speaking in a video shared on the Archewell website the Duchess launched 40×40, a global effort encouraging people around the world to commit to giving 40 minutes of their time to support women going back to work.

At the start of a Zoom-style call in her spotless LA mansion, Meghan told: ‘It’s my 40th birthday and I’ve got an idea. Because I’m turning 40, I’m asking 40 friends to give 40 minutes of their time to mentor a woman who is remobilising back into the workforce.

‘Over 2million women in the US alone and tens of millions around the world have lost their jobs due to Covid. And I think if we all do it, and all commit 40 minutes to an act of service, it can have a ripple effect.’

What can Meghan Markle expect at 40? As the Duchess celebrates her birthday, astrologists predict her year ahead – from a reconciliation with William and Kate to writing about motherhood

As Meghan Markle celebrates her 40th birthday today, two astrologers have shared their predictions for how her star sign and birth chart might influence her year ahead.

UK-based astrologer Francesca Oddie said Meghan will spend time thinking about the sort of mother she wants to be – and might even write about the experience of raising her daughter Lilibet.

Meanwhile Nicolas Aujula, a psychic who claims to have predicted Covid-19, said the Duchess of Sussex might repair her relationship with Prince William and Kate this year but believes she will always have a strained bond with Prince Charles.

PERSONALITY

Born in the sign of Leo, Meghan is warm hearted, commanding and uber confident who definitely wears the trousers in her marriage. She is very good at making things happen and will take no for an answer.

‘She needs to learn to slow down more as she approaches 40, to not feel like she has to always be in the driving seat. She has a lot of orange hues around her aura, its a very creative and fertile colour.

Time to heal the rift?

Nicolas said: ‘Meghan’s relationship with Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will repair but there will always be frosty relationship with Prince Charles.

‘It’s the sign of independence and not being bound by restriction, she doesn’t follow rules and will always command her own life.

‘She leads, she does not follow. It’s also makes her a warm mother and carer to others, there is warmth in her heart and she wants to make a difference in the world.’

MOTHERHOOD

Francesca Oddie said: ‘The healing power of motherhood is what strikes me when looking at Megan Markle’s horoscope.

‘A deep internal transformation that underlies her whole personality has been in process for the past two years and although many people think Megan’s is being dramatic and over the top, I would suggest that the way she has been feeling has been deeply unsettled.

‘The transformation she has been experiencing is galvanised in the birth of her daughter. I often hear clients talk about how their perspective changes when they look at their child and it really puts things into perspective as they see their childhood with fresh eyes.

‘With Saturn in Aquarius opposite Megan’s Sun in her Solar Return chart (AKA birthday chart) this is her year to make it, whatever ‘it’ is.

‘Transiting Chiron, the wounded healer, is on her MC and this makes me think that she is reflecting deeply on how she interfaces with the world, her childhood but also how she wants to mother. How does she want her daughter to see her? Fresh love is incredibly motivating and can be a catalyst to live a different life.’

More business ventures? Francesca predicts Meghan and Harry's relationship will become even more professional this year

More business ventures? Francesca predicts Meghan and Harry’s relationship will become even more professional this year

FOOD AND LIFESTYLE

Francesca said: ‘Transiting Mars is on her Natal Ceres in Virgo, this also repeats the idea that the style of parenting, nurturing and healthcare that Megan focusses on will be something that she is considering deeply at the moment.

Small things on the horizon for Meghan?

Nicolas added Meghan will go on a ‘memorable trip to a tropical island’ and will ‘lose a valuable piece of jewellery’ this year.

‘The food, products and lifestyle choices she makes for herself and her baby will be of great interest. Virgo is very focused on diet, health and daily routines.

‘It wouldn’t be at all surprising if Megan spoke, wrote or shared some ideas on what mothering her daughter means for her.’

CAREER

Francesca continued: ‘With Saturn still transiting her 7th house, her relationship with Harry may take on an even more professional role. There could be some challenges, but Saturn confers work in every sense of the word.

‘There are more shocks, changes and turnarounds coming for Megan this year, but I think the professional capacity of Megan was a woman and mother is about to be monetised, perhaps also with a philanthropic element to whatever she creates.’

Nicolas added: ‘Meghan will create awareness on growing hunger in the world, hunger will become a global problem. She will champion women’s rights, especially education for young girls.

‘She will continue grow into popularity in US, she will eclipse Hollywood royalty to make her own place in history… The world of politics will open up for her in coming years.’

Melissa McCarthy wears a plaster on her neck during a birthday chat with Meghan Markle – after sharing clip about terrifying Huntsman spider bite

Melissa McCarthy could be seen sporting a huge plaster on her neck during a video released for Meghan Markle’s 40th birthday on Wednesday.

The video comes after the actress, 50, shared a video about suffering from terrifying spider bites while filming two projects in Australia this year.

Melissa’s video revealed the worrying effects of a huntsman spider bite, which left her feeling itchy and unwell – as she covered herself in towels to cool off.

It is unclear whether Melissa’s plaster-covered neck was due to another spider bite injury.

Melissa featured in the Duchess of Sussex’s video which was launched as an initiative for people to commit to giving 40 minutes of their time to support women going back to work.

The Duchess had asked 40 activists, athletes, artists and world leaders to participate by contributing 40 minutes of mentorship to women re-entering the workforce.

Melissa has been in Australia with her family filming the miniseries Nine Perfect Strangers, and more recently Thor: Love and Thunder.

In March the actress revealed she was bitten by a huntsman spider during her trip Down Under.

The Hollywood star shared a hilarious video to Instagram of herself lying in bed with bandages on both hands.

In the post, Melissa is first seen saying: ‘I love that all the bugs and creatures will kill you.’

She is then pictured lying in a bed with bandages on both her hands and a towel on her forehead.

‘After professing my love of Australian critters to InStyle magazine, I was quickly reminded by someone that I was conveniently forgetting the aftermath of some of those ‘magical’ bites,’ Melissa wrote.

The comedian has been in Australia since last year filming the upcoming TV series Nine Perfect Strangers, which is based on the 2018 novel of the same name by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty.

The $100million production was being filmed in Byron Bay and other parts of NSW.

The series will tell the story of nine stressed-out urbanites who escape to a wellness retreat run by Nicole Kidman’s character.

Melissa and her husband Ben Falcone were also recently spotted on set Thor: Love and Thunder alongside Matt Damon and Luke Hemsworth.
