Mel B reveals her ‘traumatic’ marriage to Stephen Belafonte caused her to suffer PTSD

Mel B has discussed how her marriage to Stephen Belafonte triggered her post-traumatic stress disorder on Monday’s Loose Women.

The 43-year-old America’s Got Talent judge was on the ITV lunchtime stalwart as a panellist alongside Ruth Langsford, Jane Moore and Nadia Sawalha when they addressed Katie Price’s admission into The Priory due to her PSTD.

Getting candid about her 10 year marriage to the film producer, Mel explained that her PSTD manifested in flashbacks and nightmares which left her unable to ‘move or talk’.

She shared: ‘I’ve openly admitted I suffer from it and it’s an ongoing thing.

‘It’s a condition you have to acknowledge and I commend her [Katie Price] for actually saying it out loud because it’s hard in the public eye. [Mine was triggered] Because I had a traumatic marriage.

‘I had to read about it and then I got diagnosed because mine came back in flashbacks, nightmares and really bad anxiety based around things that would trigger me or make me so suffocated in my emotions that I couldn’t even move or talk.

Adding: ‘It’s good to acknowledge it.’

And while sharing her struggles, Mel also delivered some great news to Spice Girls fans as she confirmed a reunion is imminent.

Although she was unable to confirm when it will happen, the Leeds native said that ‘four’ out of the five original band members are definitely in for another tour.

‘There is a reunion happening for sure,’ she beamed. ‘I’m not supposed to say when. It’s definitely happening.’

Her appearance comes after the Wannabe hitmaker recently passed a drug test as part of her ongoing custody battle with ex-husband Stephen Belafonte.

She screened ‘clean for alcohol, marijuana, cocaine and addictive painkillers’ according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.

Mel was ‘tested on September 6, 7, and 10’ after Belafonte accused her of being ‘an alcoholic and a sex addict who’s unfit to retain custody’ of their daughters Angel, 11, and Madison, seven.

The accusation was bolstered by the couple’s ex-nanny Rusty Updegraff who alleged that her drinking was out of control, she was ‘incapable’ of caring for her daughters and her ferocious appetite for sex made her bed a slew of random men.

‘Mel would drink so much at the house and pass out that if there was an emergency I dread to think what would happen,’ he told The Mirror.

‘I am not doing this for fame, and I didn’t have to do this, but I love those children and want the best for them.’

The couple split in March and  were divorced in December after a long-running battle in which lurid tales of kinky sex, drug and alcohol abuse and allegations of domestic violence made headlines.

Despite their divorce being finalised nine months ago, the battle over children’s custody and finances have dragged on through this summer.

Brown estimated that she’s spent more than $1 million in legal fees and owes another $800,000 to attorneys and accountants.
