Mel B’s ex Stephen Belafonte slams her attempt to move their daughter, 8, permanently to the UK

Mel B’s ex husband has slammed her court request to move their daughter Madison permanently to the UK and said: ‘No way, not gonna happen.’

Stephen Belafonte claims the Spice Girl has only called their eight-year-old three times since leaving the US over three months ago, forgot to call on her birthday and didn’t even bother sending a birthday gift.

And he says nothing should have stopped Mel from flying over to LA to see her daughter.

Instead, Mel has been jet-setting around the world visiting Capri, Italy, for friend Heidi Klum’s wedding, holidaying in Phuket, Thailand and soaking up the sun on the beach on Nevis Island in the Caribbean.

The former America’s Got Talent judge and Belafonte have joint physical custody of Madison but by leaving for the UK, Mel essentially abandoned that arrangement, handing custody to her ex – a situation the judge in the case is aware of.

A rep for Mel B told DailyMail.com that the star would not be commenting because the matter is subject to a child custody case.

Mel, 44, returned to the UK permanently over the summer after 15 years living in the US and following an acrimonious divorce with Belafonte.

She has now reignited the bitter war with her ex, however, by requesting to uproot their daughter to Leeds, England claiming she can no longer get work in the US

According to court documents Mel says her US visa is up in February 2020 and is requesting to completely change the custody agreement regarding Madison.

She said in the paperwork: ‘As the court is well aware, my marriage to Stephen was unhealthy. I was subjected to years of verbal and sexual abuse by Stephen, which included his active isolation of my daughters and me (including Madison) from my home and family in the United Kingdom.’

But Belafonte hit back, telling DailyMail.com: ‘It is not in my daughter’s best interests to leave everything she knows in this country, to leave all her friends, her school and uproot her to a whole other country.

‘Also Melanie has battled alcohol and drug addiction and has made several questionable decisions around our children, as revealed by two of her former assistants.

‘So for Madison’s safety and in her best interests she needs to stay here.’

Mel’s former close friends and assistants Gary Madatyan and Rusty Updegraff separately came forward to reveal how Mel verbally and emotionally abused her three children in a series of sickening incidents.

In exclusive interviews with DailyMail.com they claimed Mel’s disturbing behavior was down to chronic alcoholism and an addiction to potent prescription drugs.

She’s called Madison three times since she left for the UK in August and never bothered to call her to wish her happy birthday, it’s upsetting for a young girl.

While Belafonte, 44, is concerned by her behavior he still wants Madison to spend time with her mother.

Mel has his permission to see Madison on holidays and she’s set to see her daughter for the first time in three months on Saturday when she’ll spend Thanks Giving week with her.

‘Madison should see her mother, I’ve never been opposed to that,’ he said.

‘I’ve made very clear in all this that Melanie can see her daughter any time she wants, I’m not standing in the way of that, I only care about what’s in the best interests of my child.’

But Belafonte is upset that Mel hasn’t been better at keeping in touch with her youngest.

‘She’s called Madison three times since she left for the UK in August and never bothered to call her to wish her happy birthday, it’s upsetting for a young girl,’ he said.

Belafonte says all communication between Mel and Madison is recorded on a co-parenting app called Our Family Wizard which the court can access at any time.

Belafonte and Mel split in March 2017, finalizing their divorce in December 2017. Despite their divorce being final for so long, trying to settle complicated issues between them, mostly over children and money dragged on through 2018. The app is designed for co-parenting exes and facilitates and tracks communication.

Belafonte also wishes his ex would stop attacking him in the media and says she’s become ‘obsessed’ with him.

‘Melanie is still selling stories, still going out there talking to everyone, trying to play the abuse victim,’ he said. ‘She’s obsessed with me.

‘She said in court that I beat her every day, and publicly she keeps stating that I was mentally abusive, but there is no newspaper or television show in which she says I have been physically abusive, even in her book she never said that because it’s not true.

‘The woman is just an horrific liar, she won’t dare say it in public because she knows I will sue her.’

Mel has to pay Belafonte $15,000 a month in spousal support until 2020.

In the latest court filing Mel says any income she generates is done in the UK, including her recent Spice Girls comeback tour.

‘If I were forced to stay in the United States, I would be unable to maintain the standard of living to which Madison is accustomed,’ she said.
